I'm going to be doing seating soon (oy!) and I'm having visions of fights with FILs about who gets to sit up front and who gets the tables in the back. What are you girls doing or what did you do?
I'm guessing split them up - 1/3 my people get good tables, 1/3 dad, 1/3 FILs? Any other ideas?

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
We did by order of who would get more pizzed off if they weren't in the front. And went from there...
The winner was my mother who got to sit at Table #1 and the reason being
a. Did not want to hear crp from her (chosing my battles) and
b. I knew that if I didn't I would get the 'Well I gave birth to you, so I should sit at table #1'
(She said this to my sister when my sister sent out her engagement announcements after she got engaged years ago) She told her since she gave birth to her, her name should be first (my parents are divorced)

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
thank goodness both side of our families are not picky about this.
but regardless, i'm sitting on the left side of the sweetheart table-so my side of the invites will be on my left (their right). just so happen that table #1 is on my family side. can you explain it that way? man, is it really important the different b/t #1 and #2?!
as far as the front and back, we are sitting our close family in front and friends in the back. most of our friends will dance anyway.

I will solve this issure---- play hero music--- obviously family sits closer. One side his one side yours. DONT USE NUMBERS. Use the names of things that fit into your theme or places of importance.
Ie:
Riverhead Raceway Cape Coral Ocean Isle Beach
or Jingle Bells Santa is Coming to Town
NOW THERE IS NO # 1 OR 2

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
luckily Villa's dance floor is in the center so the room is evenly split for sides, but the tables Villa suggested for the parents were on the dancefloor and both parents & BP & us didn't like that so we switched. Everyone was within 1 table to the dancefloor. Younger tables were next to the DJ to avoid the comments of older guests and closer family members were at tables closest to our parents
This was our sample we used. NOT tO SCALE!! but it was hard because my family was so large & DH's was tinier. We had tables from 8-12ppl. The room could hold 400 so we had so much rooM!
Our dance floor doesn't split the room in two so I am putting the bridal party on either side of us at the head of the room (similar to a dais arrangement but with three tables instead of one) and then sticking the parents side by side right in front directly opposite us!

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
I am putting my parents on the closest table to us after the BP then on his side we will have some p roblems cuz his parents a re divorced bother remarried but FH step dad past away and FH mother doesn't really want to be seated close to her ex husband and his wife. Well I can't please everyone and I don't want to put FH father and step mother in the middle of everyone they are still his parents and they deserve to sit in the front as well.

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
I was mean about this.
My family was at table #1. Then my sister and her friends were at table #2. DH's mom and her family were at table #3 (but this was right next to my parent's table)
Family and friends were in the middle....then at the LAST table were DH's dad's side of the family. His father is deceased and we don't really like these people, so we sat them all together at table #12. No one has said boo about it to me yet though...I am sure they will at some point though.

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
the room is split the side I sit on happened to be even numbers and fhs side was odd numbers
My parents, aunts and uncles were at table 2 (but the first table near me) and fhs parents, brother, and uncles were at the first table closest to him,
from there on we went with our closest family and then to friends and coworkers

Re: Tables - How Did You Decide Who Sits Up Front
Our room was split, so Dh's family had the side closest to him, and I had the side closest to me. I put my parents and close family at table #1 and MIL did the seating arrangment for her side of the family. It made it SO much easier that she did her side, then I just had to fill in around her. She chose to have her friends sitting with her, her family and FIL's family at the next two tables.
