Tackling the hardest check yet today

Tackling the hardest check yet today

The friggin hotel block! This is the only aspect of planning that I truly do not like, so far.

Any tips from the girls who have done theres?

ETA: While googling how to deal with hotel blocks, I found something called hotelplanner.com. Has anyone used this?

It sounds like a great idea, you put in all the info, how many rooms, location, amount of *'s you want, and they send the request to a bunch of hotels that match your requirements, and then the hotels contact you with their bids. This sounds way easy and its free....hmmmmm

And there's not too many hotels near where I'm getting married, so theres little competition. But I have some people coming from like hick Virginia so I don't want it to be too unreasonable.

Jill - where are you looking for your hotel block? Bellport isn't too far from Sayville (Lands End) and I've found there arent a tone of hotels out there.

So far I've seen The Holiday Inn and The Hilton Garden Inn (near the Islip Airport) and both are really good options so far. At the Holiday Inn you can build into the price of the guest rooms the shuttle to/from the wedding ($20 extra per room) which I really like about that hotel. If we go with the Hilton Garden Inn (which I like the layout of lobby better for post wedding brunch) I have to book through a separate shuttle service myself which I am in the process of.

I also wanted to check out the Marriot but thats a little further away and just by the pictures its a bit too modern looking for me.

Every time someone says this is the hardest thing, I get so happy I decided to pass this task off on FMIL!

Re: Tackling the hardest check yet today

This was the only thing so far that caused me any stress what so ever!

Basically it came down to what we were getting. We knew that we were going to have a shuttle for our guests staying at the hotel. It was just a matter as to whether we were going to have to pay for the shuttle or it would be included.

When it came down to it Fox Hollow was a little more money for our guests but it included the shuttle that we did not have to pay for, breakfast in the morning that is complementary and a room for us.

We went with that one!

There aren't many hotels out here. I've lived south shore Suffolk my whole life and I've seen like 3! haha. Def. try out the hotelplanner website. I got quotes from the Marriotts, Hampton Inn, and the best quote I got was from the Crowne Plaza in Holtsville which I've never heard of, but it has great reviews and the pics look great, so I'm going to make an appt to go see it!!
