we invited people last minute. I called them. I explained the situation that due to large amount of family we were unable to invite friends that we really wanted there. We understand it's short notice but we would be honored if you came to our wedding. They were all so flattered and happy and came...no questions asked or hard feelings!

Re: tactful way to invite people last minute?
i have called a few last min people...cause im not making my minimum either....i just called them and said..heyy...i have a few regrets for my wedding...and i am stuck paying for the seats if someone shows or not....do you want to come?? I am not asking for a gift..just come and eat!!! I would hate for the food to go to waste!!!
most likely..they will end up bringing something anyways...even if its half of what a person originally invited in the first place would give....its better than nothing!!!

Call them and just pretend like you didn't get their RSVP and pretend like it must have gotten lost in the mail.

this is risky bc if they're your D list then you probably didn't send them a save the date, i wouldn't risk this bc it could seriously backfire.
did you ask if any of your single friends could bring guests?

me too
or if you feel funny calling them, go to walmart and get simple invitations and print them out at home, a kit costs about $20.00 send them and act like they got lost at the PO.
