Okay so I'm kinda confused. I know its been a while since I've been chit chatting but schools been keeping me so busy, glad to see everyone's doing pretty well though :)
So the dress I LOVE and really think might be the one..is taffeta? I always had a perception that taffeta was 'tacky' lol...silly I know because the dress is amazing (Maggie Sottero - the Victoriana) and today my bridesmaids tried on AMAZING dresses (bill levkoff) also in taffeta to match and I was really happy...
What is your opinion on material? I know Satin is the big deal but for me I think it might be too heavy for my 6/09 wedding and I want to be able to dance my butt off....taffeta is kinda lighter no?
Please help...getting caught up in material nonsense...
thanks! Michele

Victoriana is my dress and it is great!!!! Take alook at my pics....it is also lighter for a summer wedding. I dont see anything wrong with it. What Bill Levkoff style are you looking at? I am hoping the girls like 557 which is taffeta as well.

Re: Taffeta???
i have nothing for or against the material, but from what i'm read/heard i believe it photographs shiny.....you might want to ask your photographer about it.....you dont want your pics to end up looking funny.

I don't think I know much about taffeta, but I agree, if you love who cares what fabric it is.

Re: Taffeta???
My only gripe about taffeta is its noisy! But I think that if you found something you really love and it looks good, then go with it who cares what the material is. I had a list of BM dresses and some where taffeta, but the girls ended up picky something that was chiffon.

You can also look into raw silk which is similar to taffeta. I went into dress shopping open minded and decided that I hated satin dresses. I didn't like the way they looked on me, I didn't like the weight of them for a summer wedding (I'm getting married in August!) and eventually I stopped looking at satin altogether.
I was open to satin for BM dresses but in the end we decided on taffeta -- it was more flattering and I felt it went better with my dress. I didn't have any preconceptions about taffeta -- I didn't know anything about it. I actually had thought taffeta was like velvet, which is clearly is not
Edit: pix of my BM dresses in my album, FM me if you want more info on my dress (raw silk)

Re: Taffeta???
I thought Taffeta was too 80's bridesmaid-y at first. But, my bridesmaid dresses are Taffeta and they're not tacky whatsoever. If you love them, then by all means, get them.

The funny thing is, my mom's bridesmaid dresses (and her sisters, and some that she wore as a BM) were all chiffon, with the exception of one satin dress. They all had big bows on them.

I thought the same exact thing. I was completely against it but I have seen some beautiful dresses and I think it becomes a personal preference. If you love the dress, get it

Re: Taffeta???
I'm a taffeta fan- I love the iridescence in it that you get from the pictures- I just wish Levkoff offered more colors for his taffeta- which dress are you looking at?

Re: Taffeta???
I absolutely love that dress. That was my first choice for a long time and then I saw other maggie dresses that I love so now I am confused, but the Victoriana in taffeta is gorgeous.
