So FH and I met with a travel agent for the first time to plan our HM to the French Polynesia. We are on a budget so need to get the most bang for our buck!
Any suggestions??????????

Re: Tahiti!
if you play around with the number of days you stay on each island as well as hotels, you can shave off dollars.
have the ta play around with the itinerary. like i would stay in moorea for 4 night and bora bora for 5 nights.

Re: Tahiti!
also you can play around with the types of rooms you stay in....
DH and I saved money by staying in garden bungalows 8 out of our 10 nights. We only stayed in the very expensive OWB for our last 2 nights in Bora Bora.
The garden bungalows were great. The Bora Bora Pearl garden bungalow even had it's own private plunge pool.
We brought a collapsable cooler and kept it full of water and snacks. It really saved us money when we did not have to shell out $15 every day for a simple afternoon snack or drink.
Don't be afraid to bring snacks from home. DH and I packed granola bars and pepridge farm goldfish.
We went to town and bought our own huge jug of water at the supermarket - the hotel wanted $6 for a 20 oz bottle of water!!!
The street cart food was great and cheap - don't be afraid to try it when you go to town. The carts were very clean and the food was great.
My travel agent was great. I told her my budget and what we wanted to do, and she made a great package. We worked with Alison Adam at Tahiti Travel Mate

Re: Tahiti!
Thanks everyone. We met with a TA from Liberty Travel and she is working on it. She suggested the Sofitel Resorts b/c they are less expensive. Anyone have any experience with this resort?

i agree! we did the same.. brought snacks from home and went to the supermarket in town to buy water and anything else we needed.... we also didnt eat on the resort much and ate at local pizza/hamburger shops in town.. the activites/concierge desk can help you locate places like this..
i would price out another TA to compare.. sometimes they will match the cost..
Book early because we went in august and a lot of the rooms we wanted were already booked.. trip still was within budget but we didnt get to test out the other types of rooms...
I see ur wedding date is in august as well - we ran into a lot of europeans and thats a big travel month for them - book ealry!
we used goway travel - shean carmichael -tahiti tours

Re: Tahiti!
i hear that Sofitel in Moorea is located on the best water!!
no experience with Sofitel Bora Bora
but perhaps you can do Sofitel Moorea and Bora Bora Pearl. You can't go wrong with the Pearl! They have really reasonable prices and the hotel is stunning!
i have a few pics of Pearl in my review. i can def. post more...

Re: Tahiti!
My travel agent said she can't get prices until the second week in Sept., does that sound correct?

Re: Tahiti!
It does sound right. Most hotels and airlines don't give pricing for more than a year in advance. When we were looking into booking Tahiti it was more than a year before we were going to go and our TA told us the same thing but she estimated what it would be.
