Check out the French Polynesia thread in the Honeymoon forum and the honeymoon reviews in the Brides' Review forum.
You'll find hotels with overwater bungalows on the islands of Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Moorea, but Bora Bora has the highest number of hotels with such accomodations.
The other threads should have other hotel and island recommendations.

FSIL and FBIL went there in May for their HM. They RAVED about it. I know two other couples too who were overly enthusiastic about it. Def do it!!!

im completely in love with Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort
I love the bungalows-- Im leaning towards the beach bungalows with the hot tub in them-- it is just a perfect getaway for the website CLICK HERE
has anyone been here? Is there anything else to do -- like go for dinner or is there 'room service' in the bungalows? Im so excited and it soo long away loll

i stayed at the borabora pearl.. check out the honeymoon board.. there is a thread dedicated to the FP with loads of pictures and comments on the various hotels there...

your pictures are beautiful-- can I ask you a couple questions?
I just wanted to know which bungalows did you stay at and what was in them-- also did you have options for dinner or and spas at the pearl?

if u search under the review boards there are a few girls who did it. they all have RAVE reviews on bora bora & moorea... said it was the most amazing place they'd ever seen. DH & i majorly looked into it vs. the all-inclusive trip we did to st.lucia - but it was gonna cost us about double the price for half the amount of time. it's VERY $$$$$ - BUT if u can do it, then go for it. It's totally paradise and is a once in a lifetime thing. DH & i are planning on doing it hopefully for our 5yr. good luck!

We just finished booking our honeymoon in The French Polynesia- Tahiti / Moorea / Bora Bora!!
-Staying at: Moorea: Intercontinental Resort & Spa Moorea and Bora Bora: InterContinental Resort & Thalasso Spa Bora Bora Over Water Bungalow (Guests celebrating their honeymoon will receive tropical flowers arranged in bedroom and bathroom of villa upon arrival and Champagne on ice upon arrival.)
We included: Moana Lagoon & Motu Beach Picnic Tour, Marama Tours At Moorea Island and Bloody Mary's Dinner W/Island Transfers, Bloody Mary's Restaurant At Bora Bora Island
and we plan to add a few more excursions!

Here are some reviews i have notebooked - they're EXTREMELY detailed, full of pics, and very helpful!
I'm completely in love with Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort
The resort looks lovely.
We stayed at the St.Regis. I would recommend dinner at Lagoon which is located on the St.Regis property. It is rated one of the most popular and it was delicious. A bit pricey but Hey it is your Honeymoon right?
You must probably will have to stay in Papeete one night - get off the island right away and get to your destination. Don't waste time there you will be disappointed.
And whatever any of you Brides do .. DO NOT STAY at the LeMeridan in Tahiti!
It was plain awful! I am about to make a review on Tripadvisor.com and write to Amex about is since it one of their sponsored Hotels and resorts!
For Papeete I recommend ; The Sheraton, or the Intercontinental much nicer.
