I just posted this in my board ('08) and I figured I'd tell you guys. When I first got engage everyone was asking me 'Why are you waiting so long?' or 'Why are you planning so far in advance?' Keep in mind my date is still about two years away. I just called a photographer and they are not available for my date. I'm not saying book all your vendors tomorrow but definately start researching and getting recommendations and getting ideas but don't linger to long! I certainly did not think I'd have to deal with this for a couple of months. Luckily I've been able to get so many wonderful recommendations from other posters!!

Re: Take your time but don't wait too long!
Thanks for the heads up. It's crazy how far things book in advance in Long Island!!! I tell my friends from out of town that we're looking at reception halls and they think I'm nuts to be looking when my wedding is not for another 3 years.

Re: Take your time but don't wait too long!
I want to start looking at reception halls and everyone is telling me that I am crazy and that it is too early!! Its so annoying, I dont want to wait too long and not get what I want, thats part of the reason we are waiting so long. Has anyone started booking anything yet?? Or am I the only anxious one lol

I know a couple of 09 girls have booked their halls already. I've already looked at about 22 halls and am still trying to figure out what I want to do I've looked at catering halls, destination wedding and now I'm going to take a look at some Knights of Columbus halls.

Just a piece of advice from someone who has booked all of her vendors with no problem.... granted, i am a winter wedding and the weddign vendors are a little less busy then, but you all have plenty of time. it's the girls that go nuts trying to find the 'best' everything that can't get the vendors that they want. the vendors that are constantly all over this site, yes, they are good, but that's why you can't book them because a gazillion people view this site.... there are so many good vendors out there, i.e. your local florist, for example, that will do just as great of a job for usual half-the-price. think about it: all these vendors that advertise on the web, in all the bridal magazines, etc. etc. yes, they are high quality, but YOu end up paying all their overhead fees (advertising, promotions, bridal shows, etc.) if you're on a budget, take your time and investigate.... you have plenty of time. you will find quality people and you will SAVE money if you don't drive yourself crazy and just boook someone to do it quickly.
GOOD LUCK!

That is very well put, you guys should definitely look into vendors outside of this website. the site is a very good one for help, but don't limit yourself only to what you hear on here. Good luck ladies
