I have decided not to have my alterations done with the place I got my dress. (Demetrios Macy's Smithhaven Mall). They have been holding my dress for over a year. How do I go about getting my dress from them? Ideally I would like to pick it up on the way to the seamstress next Sat because I don't trust myself with it and have no place to keep it. Do I give the bridal salon notice? Or do I only tell them a day or two before? I'm a little afraid they may be upset they are losing money and tell me to pick up the dress immediately. What would you guys go?

I would call them the night before and tell them you're coming to pick it up the next day.

You should be fine just calling them to say you're picking it up. They can't keep it from you unless you want them to. The only trouble they might give you, is they may charge you a fee for holding it if you decide not to get alterations through them. It's rare, but sometimes companies do rude things when you take your business elsewhere.
