Talk about arriving early!

Talk about arriving early!

A friend just e-mailed this story to me and thought I'd share:

'Guest flies far for wedding, arrives a year early'

Toronto teacher turns up in Wales to find pal's nuptials won't be until 2008

LONDON - Teacher Dave Barclay flew thousands of miles across the Atlantic to Wales to attend his friend’s wedding, only to discover he was a year early.

Barclay, 34, was told about the wedding earlier in the year and assumed it was to take place in 2007.

It was only when he had flown into Cardiff from Toronto, Canada, and rang the bridegroom seeking details of the venue that he discovered the wedding was in 2008.

“I am a year early — yeah, my mates are loving it, aren’t they,” he told BBC Radio Wales.

The groom, Dave Best, had emailed his friend at the start of the year.

“He just said July the 6th and I assumed it was this year because if you tell the guy July 6th, they’re going to think it’s this year,” Barclay said.

Barclay, who has been teaching in Toronto for three years spent $1,015 on his premature flight.

“At least it’s assured me a mention in the speech next year,” he added.

He's a guy. He probably thought the email WAS the invitation.

I just want to know how he managed to go that long without mentioning all this to his friend. If they were close enough for him to fly overseas to go to the wedding, you'd think they chat or email on a somewhat regular basis...

That's what I was thinking!!

I guess he just used the time there to visit with his friend, so it wasn't a total loss. But I couldn't imagine having to spend another $1K to fly there again next year!!!!!

Because he is a guy and guys don't think about receiving invitations.

What I want to know is.... whose idea was it to call the NEWS about this?

Re: Talk about arriving early!

This is why men need women. A woman would say, 'What? No, call your friend and check. We never got an invitation' A man says 'July 6 open bar. Nothing will stop me' Sorry if that sound sexist. I mean it in the spirit of fun.

i'm sorry but the guy who flew is an idiot.

he didn't call or email his friend before he came to say 'okay i booked my flight.....i'll see ya soon!' or
just in general calling him up to say that he will be coming soon and what kind of arrangements will be made for accomodations and such??? or even a quick 'hey mate, see ya next week!'

yeah like i said, the guest is a farking idiot.
