I have it for the first time. I am home sick, and missing work. I hate when I cant be with my students. Anyway, how long is this going to last? My throat feels like their are razor blades in it....
Oh and to make matters worse, DH is home with a stomach virus. We cant even take care of each other!

I used to get this a lot as a kid. I used to get really bad sore throats just like you described - like every time you swallow it feels like razor blades or broken glass. It hurts so bad! Feel better!

everyone seems to have that right now! It must be going around. I had it last year. You'll probably feel better in a few days but to help it a little...gargle with warm salt water over and over..it really helps. Antiseptic spray works a little too...that and tea with honey, cough drops and sleep! Feel better!!

I agree about the salt water, that def. helps! If I remember correctly it lasts about three days. I hope you feel better soon!

I used to get this every year when I was a kid... While you're not contagious after 24 hours of taking the antibiotics, It usually hurt for about 2 - 3 days or so...
I hope it feels better soon though!

I got it twice in one year!! UGH!! I feel for you. The first time I got it was the worst!! Just like you described, it felt like razor blades whenever I swallowed! Couldn't eat a thing. I even lost 8 lbs in one week!!! Just take your antibiotics religiously and you'll be back on your feet in no time. Feel better!!
p.s....this may sound like torture, but if you have lemon, cut some wedges and suck on them. I know, sounds P a i n f u l, but the pure vitamin c helps alot.

I wouldn't chance going to work tomorrow - you'll expose people to it and you'll probably still be feeling lousy. Just rest and feel better before the holidays approach

it depends on how long you've been on the antibiotics... If, by the time you go to work tomorrow, you go back to work tomorrow, it's been 24 hours, then you'll be fine, if it's been less than 24 hours, or you're still not feeling 100%, i'd stay home.

Ohhhhhhhhh I'm so sorry! I get strep throat at least once a year (my dr., when I was little, did research on strep and took a few cultures from my brothers and I, and EVER SINCE we all get strep EVERY YEAR!! Coincidence? I think NOT!).
With antibiotics the symptoms should go away within a day or so. Drink hot tea with honey - it should help your throat a little. And, take ibuprofen - it brings down the fever and reduces the swelling in your tonsils a little.

Thanks so much everyone, I am feeling a bit better now. But I am freaking out because DH is really sick with a stomach virus and I am terrified of getting it.
