My parents are going to Tampa in July to visit family. They will be there a week. They want to know what there is to do while there.

My parents are in their mid-50's.

Anyone have reccomendations?

Re: Tampa?

Busch Gardens is there and has plenty to do. My suggestion would be that they go down to Ybor City during the day. It is the old Cuban Cigar District that has been turned into shops, restaurants, etc. it is a clubbing area at night so that will not be for them. Colubmia's is a good restaurant and part of the history of the city as well. Carmine's is also good as well. The Aquarium is fairly new and is in that same area. South Tampa is beautiful. There is an area called Hyde Park that is very charming for lunch and/or shopping.

They could drive to the St. Petersburg area. It's not that far, maybe an hour or hour and a half and has a beautiful hotel called the Don Cesar that is something to see. it's on the beach. IF they decide to go, there are several opportunities in St. Pete. The St. Petersburg Pier is a great day activity. it's beautiful and has shops and restaurants. There's also an area called John's Pass. Large rows of touristy shops and restaurants with docks where you can take out a sea do if you want.

Tarpon Springs is an area if they feel like getting out and exploring. It's a large greek community. Not too far of a drive. Again, maybe an hour.

Disney is only an hour and a half away as well.

I grew up there. If they golf there are really great courses. Clearwater Beach is close. They have a great aquariam near the seaport. There is a new area called Channelside that is really nice, good shops and restaurants. They should go country line dancing. It is all different age groups and so much fun. I use to go to a place called Borderlines. Hyde Park is a great area, outside dining and good shops. Busch Gardens is really fun, lots of good shows and it is a huge zoo.

Someone metioned Ybor, DH and I use to work in clubs down there, it is fun, but at night tends to be a young crowd.

Many people don't know this either, N. Tampa is the most heavily populated area in the world for nudist colonies if that is their cup of tea

I had nudist colony link but it is TMI for flower girls. but one of them is paradiselakes.com

I forgot, there are tons of places in Clearwater to go deep see fishing, it is fairly cheap and a really fun day.

This is great stuff, thanks so much. Any other info would be great. I have family in New Port Richie/Hudson area and my dad wants to go out and do stuff while there too.

Re: Tampa?

I spent a few months in Tampa for training and am going back in June for my sorority convention.

Everyone gave some great advice on what to do there. Definately check out the beaches in St. Petersburg, very nice. The state beach is very nice - natural and rustic.

There is also the Salvador Dali museum.

For the younger crowd Ybor City is so much fun! There are tons of bars & resteraunts and they close off the street. During the day it tends to be older.

Hyde Park is a lot of fun. Great outdoor resteraunts, some fun bars, and cute shops.
