Tanning before???

Tanning before???

I'm seriously considering going tanning before the wedding, which is March 30. How often should I go and when should I start? I'm very white, don't want to be super tan, just enough so I don't look like a ghost, especially in a white dress!

Also, if anyone can recommend a good place to go in the Bayside/Whitestone area.
Thanks.

I live in Whitestone, I go To Beach Bum on Bell Blvd. I try to go at least once a week.

My wedding is right near yours. I don't know how white you are, but I am very pale so I just started today. I need to start off slow and work my way up. I think it all depends on your skin.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I might start now and build up slowly as I am very white.
I'll try the place on Bell.

My date is 5/25 and I want to get started in April. Is that enought time? I tan pretty well in the summer, but I don't want to be too brown

you're better off strating earlier so as to avoid any potential 'tanning disasters' before your wedding...you don't want to be too tan or not enough, or red...so if you start early, you can see how you look!

just edited to say- don't forget to adjust your makeup with your tan! i changed lipsticks because my original one didn't look right when i was tan...

I have never been tanning ever - seems like there are lots of different options. I definitely want my face and my chest and back tan. What should I do?

Star I was going to ask the same questions. I have never done it before. I usually burn in the sun...will I on a tanning bed too?

I'd hate to be a peeling mess on my wedding day!

I was thinking of tanning too,
I am just not sure and totally not sure when to start.

Dont want any disasters, havent gone tanning in some years and only did it a few times.

but want some color
does anyone go anyway in Howard Beach, if so if you could recommend a tanning place there please do.

thanks

I am starting in march for July wedding just to get that nice base all over, (maybe once a week) , NOT ORANGE! I love Beach Bum tanning...

I live in the land of sun--FL. If you are really pale skinned I'd start tanning 2-2 1/2 weeks prior to the wedding. Go slowly. You don't want to get orange and you really don't want to peel. Also use lots of moisturizer. You may want to consider doing a trial run of tanning to see if you like the effect. Go in the next few weeks but, tan naked that way you will not have any lines that you will need to fade.LOL

I usually go tanning every few weeks now since I am so pale and feel better w/ a tan (yes, I'm almost all Italina yet I got blessed w/ pale skin-WTF!). I'll be going more often for the wedding though. Not too much that I really stand out but just enough-I think FH is going to go to so were not total opposites.

Ok for those new to tanning:

There are so many different places to go to. Every place I have been to have had knowledgeable staff that can reccomend how to start, but here is some advice:

There are many different types of beds- the typical ones are the ones you lie down in - they pretty much range from 30 minutes to 12 minutes - the 30 minute ones being less powerful and less likely to burn you - this is good to start on. Just be sure to adjust your position often to avoid stripes.

The twelve minute ones are very powerful and usually have more lights and are less likely to cause the tell-tale tanning stripes.

There are also stand up ones that last 10 - 15 minutes. There is usually an extra charge for these, but they pretty much guarantee an all over tan.

I went tanning two months before - I'm very pale, so I started with a low powered 30 minute machine. I break out easily so I didn't use any lotion. I started with 8 minutes and I would put a towel over my face and butt and breasts halfway through so that those very sensitive areas didn't burn. I went twice a week in the beginning each week adding a few minutes.

Once I developed a nice light tan, I increased the amount I would go each week and went on the 20 minute beds.

the two weeks prior to my wedding, I started using the 10 minute stand up bed just about three times a week.

I had a very nice tan on my wedding day, not too dark and had a nice glow.

If anyone has something to add, please do.

Lotion up good afterwards so you don't get the itchies!

If the place is decent & has decent knowledgeable workers there... they will be able to tell you what you need.
