Tanning experts...

I have a wedding to go to next month and I want to start tanning but I was thinking about trying the spray on tan. Anyone tried it? Where did you go?

I am very fair in the winter, but in the summer I get pretty tan. If I go tanning, how many times a week do you think I should go and for how long?

try Natural Glow by jergens...its a lotion and the color you get from it, is, well, natural.

it was a hard to find product a few months back, but now you can get it at CVS, or Walgreens.

I've used it and it gives me the right kind of tan.

This is something I know all to well. If you want to start tanning I'd say go maybe 3 times a week for like 5 to 7 minutes at a time depending on how strong the bulbs are. This will gradually increase your color without burning. It may seem like a little, but if you do say 10 minutes, you may burn, and not be able to go back untill you heal. I have read many reviews about the spray on tanning and it only lasts for a few days and you have a bit of a glow to you for the first time. You would have to go I'd say 2 or 3 times to get the dark tan you want or may not want to achieve. Airbrush can be a mess, because it has a tendency to wipe off and get on your clothes, and besides that when it washes off it streaks like the spray tan.It can also have an orange tinge to it. Stick to tanning, and maybe a little bronzer for face.

I had the mystic tan once, it was alright but one time it was raining out and i got my arm wet right afterwards and i had spots on my arm until the tan wore off. But other than that it was alright.

I used to be an expert tanner but I have tried to stop because I was going way too much. I have done the mystic tanning booth and it did an excellent job. What I would do first is maybe go three times in a regular bed and get a base tan and then go into a mystic spray booth. The people that work at the tanning salon always told me that going into a bed right before the mystic would make me tanner. I would definitely get a little base tan first before the Mystic.

I've gotten the spray on tan before. My FSIL did it for her wedding and she went 2 days before the date. We've never had a problem with the spray on tan!

But me personally, i don't like it. It came out beautifully, but you can't shower for 24 hours after you do it and i couldn't take it. You just smell like tanning oil and i felt really gross. But other than that, i'd do it again. For someone like me, who's very pasty... it was necessary.

Try the spray on (airbrush tan) and see if you like it. It's definitely safer than going tanning. It's $30 bucks i think and you have nothing to lose.

I did mystic tan a lot last summer. It works great. Yes, you cant shower for 24 hrs but it doesnt smell that bad to me. Just wear dark colors for the 1st 24 hrs

Hollywood Tan was amazing!!! I started going about 1 month before my wedding, and I never once burned!! And I burn fairly easily.

I did the second to strongest booth and then upkeep with one of the weaker ones. The packages were pretty good, $20 a month unlimited for the weaker booth and the stronger one was 1/2 price, so $25 for 5 tans. And it was great!

The girl there told me if I wanted to do the spray, to do it for fun the first time, because you need to 'practice' how to do it right......

Good Luck

Bumping...

For those who used Jergen's Natural Glow - did you use it on your face too. I bought it a month ago and now they just came out with one for the face but I used the other one on my face and it seemed fine.

I just bought the Jergen's Natural Glow for my face. I like it. My skin is sensitive but if the one for the body works for you I would stick with it.

I used it for my face also, I didn't know they just came out with one specific for it. I just noticed that because I washed my face everyday that it would wash off into the sponge so it didn't really help all that much. But now I think I'm going to try the one just for faces and see how that works. lol - I'll update in a week...

As for tanning salons - I usually went with Beach Bum (they usually have great deals especially if you're a new customer - things like 3 days to a week of free tanning). Always ask them questions and try to be embarassed because they've pretty much seen it all and will most likely know which products would be best for your skin tone. I'm fair skinned but I could get a pretty good tan. My favorite lotion is the one with the sun and koala bear on it - I always forget the name of it. Be sure to start off slow (8 minutes) for the first couple of sessions until your body gets used to it. And ALWAYS use lotion throughout the day. Your skin could start to get dry from all the exposure to the ultra-violet lights. So if you use cocoa butter, oil or lotion a couple of times a day it will help keep your skin hydrated and prevent it from peeling. The best I've seen so far is Palmers' Cocoa Butter oil. The scent takes some getting used to, but any body spray can cover it. When I tan and use it after a shower I've never peeled.

Re: Tanning experts...

There is 2 kinds... (Tried them both).

1/The spray 'booth'... DYI in a booth. It looked someone orange and uneven. It does not last more than 3 days on me and started to come off. I would not recommend that one. I went to the tanning place in Huntington (Jericho Tpk East). Passed the UHaul.

2/ The airbrush. Much nicer and even. They could adjust the color according to my natural skin tone. In another, I am very fair and would have looked 'weird' in a deep chocolate tan. (Went to a spa in Greenvale)

You need a very good head to toe exfoliating job before doing it.

Pro: no UV...
Con: no figurous exercice (sweat) and it also transfers to clothing in back, belt area (but I was able to wash it out without a problem).
You have to go at least 2 times a week to maintain it. Me... I need 2 to 3 times a week. In any cases, it did not last more than 4 days on me (airbrush) without doing another coat.
