I have been going tanning during the winters since i was 15...then last april i decided that i wasnt going to go anymore b/c of the damage that it does to my skin. Of course now that the wedding isnt that far away i decided that i would go once a week from now (i started in march) until the wedding. And now i have a mustache...and its not hair...my face is changing colors on me. it started with just the discoloration of the mustache, now i have a huge brown circle on my forehead, and yesterday i was outside in the sun and all this is magnified by 10 and 2 more brown spots appeared. i havent been tanning in 3 weeks now and this is getting worse...has this happend to anyone before? i am going to look like a leapord for my wedding

Re: Tanning has ruined me
I've heard of this a lot lately. It happened to my FSIL and one of my FH's friend's girlfriends. Are you by any chance on the Pill? FSIL's dermatologist told her that is why it was happening to her...on her cheeks and upper lip. It went away when she stopped tanning. I think I'm going to tan my whole body and just use self-tanning cream and bronzer on my face. I've been tanning for years too and definitely notice damage.
Also, there are skin bleaching creams available that maybe you can try? Definitely visit a dermatologist first though to get their opinion.

I havent been tanning in over a year..but
I used to work in a tanning salon. So tanning was free and I would go a minimum of twice a week. I defintiely noticed some discolorations in my skin so I stopped.
I was thinking of just doing the spray tan for the wedding.

My sister used to go to tanning salons also until she noticed dark spots on her legs. She stopped tanning and they eventually went away.

I looooooooove the sun..and will ely out every chance I get which is practically all weekend in the summer....
I rarely use the tanning beds only because of the color it makes you..and I have seen some girls who have the brownish color on the upper lip and some also said it was from Birth control pills and tanning...
I would go see a dermatoligist and I am sure thwey can give you a cream...

Re: Tanning has ruined me
both my MOH and I experienced melasma (the spots on the face-especially the mustache) when we took a trip two years ago to tampa. its from the Pill and tanning of any kind. the only way to get rid of the spots is not to tan you face. bleach cream will help so go to your dermatologist pronto! and stay completely out of the sun-it WILL only make it worse no matter how much sunscreen you wear. if you have to go outside-even for everyday slather on a heavy spf on your face.

As quick as you can find a facialist who specializes in Microdermabrasion. I had a lot of discoloration after five years in the sun in California- even with sunscreen I am in the sun everyday! I promise it will lighten those dark spots if you do 6 treatments. It will be pricey but for the peace of mind it will be worth it. BTW- I am 35 and it helped with small wrinkles and lines too. I love the way my skin looks and now I only have to go for followup treatments every 4 months.

I completey agree! As someone a bit older than most of you girls, I stopped tanning my face once I saw the wrinkles start. I only tan my body and keep 30 SFP on my face at all time. You face is lighter but with all the facial self-tanners on the market, you will be fine.
DO NOT EVER TAN YOUR FACE!

I am fairer than fair - and stay that way! I love the sun but burn easily and I've never tried a tanning salon, just wasn't interested. With my white wedding dress and white skin, you can just call me Casper!

For a cheaper alternative than micro try glycolic peels. They have at home ones Ithink Avon and L'oreal have one

AMEN Pigmently-challenged SISTA!!!
If I was any paler, I'd be transparent. So what, it's the way the big man upstairs made me

Now this is going to sound a little funny but it's totally true. A friend I work with is in the skin care business, he makes creams and stuff. Last we spoke about it he's making this cream that lightens dark spots on your body. I'm not sure if he's done with it but when I find out about it I'll post it.

Re: Tanning has ruined me
I actually just went to my dermatologist today for a scar that I have on my hand. She gave me a topical cream called tri-luma. It's not usually used for scars it used for skin discolorations called melasma. I would look into it. The package info says it occurs frequently in women on areas exposed to the sun. Hormones (like the pill) also effect it. If you need any more info let me know. IMO i would see my derm right away.
