Tanning? When to start?

Girls who tan, I need help...

I'm getting married in 24 days, when should I start tanning, I only want to get a base tan so I have a little glow, I don't want to look like I just got back from Mexico....And how many times should I go, I'm white right now like reallyyyyyyyyyy white so are 5 sessions enough?

If I were you I would start now. Actually I would have already started.

Are you going to a tanning salon? THink about it in terms of how many times a week you want to go. You don't want to go too many times in one week.. and doing it slowly is usually better.

Edit to add: if you want to go 1x a week.. you only have about 3 weeks left so that's only like 3 times; which might be enough but might not be. I know i want to go more than 3 times before my wedding. I don't want to be all dark and tan but I def want a nice base and glowing color. I would say 5 times are enough.. but you want to space them out. Personally I might do 6 times and just go 2x a week. Then within the last week you can maybe decide if you want to go that 6th time or now depending on where you are with your coloring.

I have 2 coworkers who are tanning now.. one goes like 3 times a week and he's dark. You are looking for a base. My other coworker has a really nice base tan (not too much but she def has a nice glow to her) she goes 1 - 2 x a week.

I think it starts to look fake when you go too much. Like the guy who goes 3x a week. He looks fake. haha.

I had a friend in HS who went every other day.. sometimes every day. AND even scarier... there were MANY days where she went 2x a day. she would go to different salons so they wouldn't know she tanned already that day. She looked like leather!!!

This is a good question because I want to tan also and now I am at the 30 day mark ... I tan really fast so Im not to worried about that, I just dont want to look fake or worse, god forbid burn or something funky happening so I wanted to give myself some time...

There is a beach bum by me.. has anyone heard anything about them? I havent really been tanning just once like 7 years ago! lol

Pixie ur in astoria right? There are a few in astoria i think on ditmars and on steinway too...I think they're pretty much all the same.

I'm prob gonna go in Bayside since it's closer to me but I'm gonna ask if I can go to Astoria too since I'm always there and it might be convenient for me also.

I've gone to beachbum and plannet tan. I haven't gone in a really really long time.. like a few years... but they were both fine.

I think the biggest difference is the package and the bed you choose. Personally I like the stand up.

My one coworker - the one with the good color.. she goes to a place where they have free tanning on Sunday's. I'll ask her where when she comes out of class.

If you guys are worried about getting red.. then maybe buy some of the lotions they have... just beware of the ones that say they contain TINGLE... you DO NOT want that. It actually makes you red and feel like you have a sunburn for a day or two. I made that mistake once and sooo regretted it!
A lot of the lotions will make you turn more tan and not red.

Thanks sweets! I am in Astoria and I only know of beach bum on steinway.. Unless I am totally missing something. I dont go to Ditmars much but there is one there I know. We should tan together in Astoria... where do you hang out there? We've probably seen each other!

I tanned and I have one piece of advice-

You WILL look tanner (more tan?? haha) in your wedding dress esp if it is white and not ivory.

I was tanning twice a week for a month and then had a fitting where I took some pics. I looked tanner than I wanted to.

That was two 1/2 weeks ago and I laid off of it. I went ONE time on Sat morning just for a LITTLE tune up- but I am not going again (my wedding is on Sat). So basically watch out for that.

It's not that I look SO tan b/c I am very pale to begin w/ BUT if you KNOW me (which yes, most people at the wedding DO lol) you would says, 'damnnn she got tan'- which isn't what I was looking for. I just wanted to have some color/glow and not be my usual ghost...

Oh one other thing- so I have two pieces of advice. The guy tried to sell me a more premium bed. This was at Beach Bum. He sold me platinum but wanted me to get diamond. Well, I tried diamond out of curiosity once (by adding 10 bucks for that day) and he was SO right b/c I got twice as much color and it did seem more brown than red.

The Howard Beach Beach Bum.

I thought the lotion for 'free' sunday tanning was $5- b/c I know it is elsewhere- but when I went to the salon here it was $10. I mean, I techincally still saved like 3 bucks haha but I felt duped. The guy was like, 'but you're getting the lotion' and I was like 'but it's one time use and I already bought a big one'... but I didn't argue with him haha no one is forcing me to tan- I just didn't bother with the free sunday thing ever again.
