Tasting AND met with the baker today!
First we went to the Black Forest Bakery and met with Tommy. We didn't choose a cake, but a tower of cupcakes. My mom is baking a two-tier cheese cake for us (Martha Stewart's recipe)--she made the same one for my sister's wedding. It was very yummy. It's going to be simply decorated with ribbon and fresh organic roases. Since we already had one cake, we figured we could go with cupcakes! Also there will be a groom's cake, but I have to call Tommy and talk to him about that when my FH isn't around. Our cupcakes are going to be really pretty: a mix of pastel blue, pastel yellow, and ivory icing, with flowers in the opposite colors on top (the ivory will have both), and he's going to sprinkle glitter or pearlized sugar around the edges. We're having some chocolate, some yellow, and some carrot cupcakes (fewer carrot.) YUM! I'm really looking forward to seeing the cupcakes, I think they'll be both beautiful and very tasty.
Then we went to Timber Point for our tasting. We had already made up a preliminary menu. The chateaubriand was fab, the chicken florentine in pastry was wonderful, and they brought out a new recipe of stuffed salmon, but my FH wanted to keep with the mahi-mahi we had chosen. It's different, anyway, so many people have salmon at their wedding, and we're already having smoked salmon in the cocktail hour. Even the veggies were good, my mom complemented Neil the manager on them. They have chicken fingers and fries for the little kids who won't eat the other stuff, and a vegetarian option for those who want it. I also asked our manager a bunch of questions I had saved up, and I think I can now make some more plans I had on hold. One thing was a disappointment though, he said to use silk petals for the petal toss. Where's the fun in that? And they're not biodegradable. I'm going to ask if they mind the freeze-dried kind, they're not slippery.
Whew! I feel as if a big weight is off my shoulders.
