Finally visited a few places. and i have a stupid yet i think smart question. Why would you have to pay for a tasting and if we are spending $$$$$ on the reception that you could not have a tasting at all? Please any words on this subject. i just find it very odd that everyone does not do this. I would really like to taste the food before i book the hall.

Re: Tastings????
Usually you do a tasting (for free) after you book the hall, a couple of weeks before your wedding, so you can work on the menu. When I booked my hall, I hadn't known anyone that had been there so I requested an early tasting and had it written in the contract that if we were displeased our contract would be voided and the money returned. Happily, the tasting was great!

Re: Tastings????
I told evey place that I looked at that I would not even consider booking unless I could taste the food and I think almost every place agreed to that. I even did tastings at places that were way over my budget!!!!!
I would tell any place you're interested in that you need to be able tot aste the food before you book and if they try and charge you tell them thanks but no thanks!!!!!

Before I booked my hall, I told them that I can't book anything unless I have a tasting. They squeezed me into one without any objection. And it was FANTASTIC!!

I did the same... and I agree... if they won't let you taste before you should say see ya!
ETA: OR at least make them write in your contract that you have the right to cancel and get your full deposit refunded if you don't like the food after the tasting, and have them schedule the tasting for within a week or so from your booking.

Re: Tastings????
Our tasting was free, but we were told we should just tip the waiters and waitresses. It was worth it-- we had so much food, and brought home ALL the leftovers!!
We had already booked, but had been to a wedding there before so we knew the food was good :)

Re: Tastings????
I'd not even think of booking a place if I haven't had a tasting. I didn't even have to ask because they offered. Most of the places that I went did not have a problem in offering this and for free. Like I said, I personally do not see myself booking a reception place without tasting the food.

Re: Tastings????
When we first went to Giorgio's they gave us a $50 gift certificate to eat in their restaurant, so we could sample the food, so we went to their Sunday Brunch and it was great!...I wouldn't book a place without a taste test first.
