Okay, here is the dilemma. On the way home yesterday after I had ordered my dress my mom says to me 'What are you going to do about your tattoo?'
I have a tattoo on my shoulder. it's about and inch and a half tall, and about 2 and a half inches wide. It is an angel holding a ribbon that has a nickname of a friend of mine who passed away 10 years ago. It has no color.
I do not want to cover it. I am making sure the photographer knows that I need to be standing a certain way so it won't be seen in the posed shots. I feel it is a part of me, just as the scar I have on my neck from surgery is and should be accepted as such. I also think asking me to cover it is like me asking my BM's to cover theirs, if they have any, which I would never do.
My mother and my FH want me to cover it. I am also afraid the makeup will run and it will end up looking more stupid than if I hadn't covered it in the first place. Does anyone have any advice?

Re: Tattoos
My advice> Do not cover it. Like you said, it is part of you and your FH should not ask you to cover it, IMHO

Re: Tattoos
I would compromise with them. Wear a shawl or something during the ceremony that will cover it, then for pics and the reception you can take it off.

I agree, this is a good idea.
Although if you did want to go the makeup route, airbrush makeup won't run or come off at all.

Re: Tattoos
I have 10 large tattoos and there are at least 3 other girls on here as well with full sleeves. I would do what YOU want - it's YOUR wedding. I am NOT covering mine and there's no way for me to pose so they won't show. They're part of me and I love them. My FH would never ask me to cover them, he loves them because they're part of what makes me ME

Re: Tattoos
You could airbrush it and it would cover it well.

It's really up to you!
You could always place your veil 'strategically' for the ceremony and photos.

Re: Tattoos
I would say, do what makes YOU happy. Remember you have to be happy with yourself on that day and if covering up your tattoo is going to make you unhappy, then DON'T DO IT.

Re: Tattoos
If you don't want to cover it don't. I totally understand your feelings. Its something important to you. I think you shouldn't worry about it. Tell your mom and FMIL, thank you but you have your tattoo for a reason and you have no desire to cover it up. Tattoos are very personal and only the bride (unless its something completely distrespectful) should be the only one should make the choice to cover it. I might be getting a tattoo before my wedding on my lower forearm of a dragon. Thats not getting covered!

Re: Tattoos
Let your tattoo that you are proud of, be seen! It's totally and completely your decision, not any one else's.

Re: Tattoos
I have some as well.. although you wouldn't see them anyway.. but I feel the same way you do...
as for them.. you could put make up on them.. they have special tattoo covering makeup... or you could take the pics and have them touched up after... some photographers do that... and then maybe you decide to leave some.. that's a good compromise....
it is an expression... lots of people don't understand... mine are symbolic to me as well.... good luck with it....

Wear it proudly, like your friend is with you on your special day. Let it be seen.

Well, I think that is part of the problem. My friend was also an ex boyfriend. But you can't tell by the nickname. My FH doesn't think it's right to have another man's name tattooed on my body even though I had it done long before I met him!
Thank you all for the advice. I am 99.9 % sure I am not going to cover it, I just needed to hear that I wasn't being selfish!

Re: Tattoos
I covered mine with my dress out of respect for my parents. Out of sight. Out of mind and no old ladies pointing at my back saying 'What did she do that for?'

Re: Tattoos
If you should decide to cover the tatoo go to NOrdstrom in the make cosmetic area and ask where they sell the dermablend. It will cover your tattoo and will not rub off or smear or run as regular make up would.
That's a tough situation and because of my own personal feelings on tattoos I wont say to cover or not cover. I will just give you the above reccommendation so that if you do go that route you take the most successful one possible!! It completely works !!

Re: Tattoos
Sorry to invade your boards, I was looking for advice and came across the same question I was debating...Mine is in color on my shoulder and it is also for a great friend of mine who was hurt severely...I am not covering it because its like you said it is a part of me and it means a lot to me.
