Why such a different refund when you are married? I use to get $2,300 this year the 2 of us $950.00

Re: Tax Question?
WElcome to the wonderful world of the marraige penalty
The standard deduction for a married couple is less then twice the standard deduction of a single person. Add to that your combined income probably throws you into a higher tax bracket.

Re: Tax Question?
I thought (but not 100% sure) that they got rid of the marriage penalty this year... the standard deduction I believe is double for married coupled than for individuals... and they expanded the tax brackets for married taxpayers. Maybe you should recheck the figures to make sure it was prepared properly.

deby, I believe they are in the process of phasing it out but I don't think we are quite there yet. I'll find out on friday when we go.

Re: Tax Question?
Don't tell me this!! I asked my accountant last Saturday if my refund would be less after I get married. He told me it would only be more. I do have a child also though.
