taxes question

if my W-s has an error in my SS#:
1. Does it matter?
2. Is it the employees responsibility to correct it?
3. Do i get issued a new one to use for filling taxes, or can I use error one?

Re: taxes question

Yes it matters very much. Your employer is responsible for reporting your wages to SS in order to update your records.

They must corrrect it (it's a matter of a form). They'll either issue you a corrected form or a form to attach to the incorrect one.

Let them know asap!

Re: taxes question

Yes - it matters. the IRS compares the taxes you file with the information submitted via your social security #. your employer is legally responsible to correct it.
