I know sales tax is 8.625%, but how much is gratuity on reception halls? I've heard 19 or 20%, can't remember.
Also, do you base the gratuity on the total of the tax + catering, or do you base the gratuity on just the catering total.

Re: tax/gratuity on reception hall
It's usually 20% and they add the gratuity on just the price of the hall and then add the tax!

Re: tax/gratuity on reception hall
the gratuity when we were shopping around was 18-20% it varied most places were 20% also i read in bridal bargains and also one of the banquet managers we met with told us that the gratuity and tax are done on the total price separately, not compounded then added to the total he was actually pretty nice and was like even if you dont book with us make sure you watch and calculate with the person writing the contract so that you dont get ripped off and taxed on the catering and gratuity...

Re: tax/gratuity on reception hall
Gratuity and tax are done on the final price separately but, if it's deemed as a 'service charge', you are taxed on that amount.
I've found that gratuities/service charges usually range between 18-21%. Check your contract, it should be outlined there.
