I just found out our reception hall is TAXING our service charge on top of the actual fee.
Is this legal?

I had a hall tell me it was illegal. But I don't know if they just said that because they didn't.

My FH was just saying the same thing. We went to a place this weekend to look and when they gave the price they added the gratuity and then NYS tax on top. If anyone knows for sure please post.

they should not be taxing your service charge.

There has been a thread on this before: taxing service charge - the consensus is that they should NOT be taxing the service charge.
