I don't, but I thought I heard, because they are so small, they have a shorter life span.

Re: Tea Cup Sized Doggies
I would get a mini instead a teacup in most dogs are 2-3 lbs where a mini is 5-8
tea cups are very small and dont live long some are cute but some are so small they have rat faces compared to a slightly bigger dog I say rat only b/c they are the size of a rat basically and while they are cute that is what some breeds remind me of

I love luigi but five lbs is not 2 or 3 it can be scary when they are that tiny

Re: Tea Cup Sized Doggies
Yeah..Luigi is regular sized. I would be afraid of any dog that small. It is so easy to step on them or even jumping of the couch can be dangerous for a 2-3 lb dog. The smaller the dog, the potential for injury, health problems, and allergies increases. I have seen chihuhuas that small and I would be afraid.

I have seen yorkies that small, three lbs and they are so skinny and tiny rat like and you see them on leases and people can step on them so easily

My friend Neal has a Tea Cup Chuihua. Bella weighs 2.9lbs...She is soooo loving and doesnt really bark at all.
If you are interested in getting a Chuihua, let me know....because a friend needs to get rid of her dog. It is black and white and very loving. I think she wants $500 for the dog. It was born on august 22, 2003

I saw a teacup yorkie at Shake a paw in Lynbrook a few weeks ago. There was two of them in the cage, and the woman took one out for us to pet....He was sooo soft...and so little.

Re: Tea Cup Sized Doggies
One of the parents at work has a teacup yorkie, she is the most precious thing, fits in the palm of your hand.
But I have heard that there isnt really any such thing as a teacup, that the reason they are so small is that they are injected or something like that. Therefore, they get very sick and do not live a normal life span that a dog should and usually does. I wanted one so bad but when I heard this, I decided not to to. The parent at work even said that she has been running back and forth to the vet with her because she has been so sick. Just a thought.

Re: Tea Cup Sized Doggies
I heard the something similar, Noreen. I think the only breed with real teacups are poodles.
A puppy can be conceived during a period that lasts about a week...so a litter can consist of pups that are a week apart in age. That's why the sizes of pups in a litter often range. What's called the runt is really a premature puppy (when the most mature pup is ready to be born, they are all born).
These preemies can develop some serious problems like luxating (sp?) patella, hypoglycemia, water on the brain, heart or lung problems. A good breeder, though, will not breed for tiny-ness.
Once you find a breed you like, find a national or local club and get a breeder referral from them.
Good luck!!

Re: Tea Cup Sized Doggies
Teacup yorkies look just like the other yorkies except they are smaller. They dont have ratty faces. Maybe you saw a mixed breed? i think they are mixing everythign with a poodle now so maybe thats what you saw?
I dont know how they get them that small (short of just breeding smaller ones together) but it does seem sort of questionable.
