For a Sat night formal wedding in July, can the BM's wear a tea length dress? I keep hearing mixed reactions - some say it's fine since it's summer, others say the length isn't formal enough. Help!!!!
I wanted tea length at first but a saleslady at Bridal Reflections had me think about me in my dress at the wedding. Is your wedding dress formal?

Re: Tea length BM dresses
What color? For a formal, evening wedding I wouldn't normally think tea length. But, a friend of mine wore black tea length bridesmaid dresses and they looked formal. Another friend wore pink tea lenght for a day wedding, they looked too casual for a formal evening wedding.

Tea length is sometimes referred to as cocktail length which is appropriate (in my opinion) for almost any wedding IMO.

I am wondering the same thing! Mine is a Friday night wedding (in August) and I think I am ding Tea length, and either lilac or Celadon (pale green). I think it's more of a 'day' color, but I dont' care, I LOVE that look! PLUS, your BM's can wear it again more than they will be able to use a floor length one, which would bee TOO formal for other ppl's weddings, most of the time.

Re: Tea length BM dresses
I was in a wedding last September...it was a very formal Saturday night wedding. We wore tea length dresses. I personally thought it was a little strange....but its what my friend wanted. The real problem I had with the tea length was that the dress wasn't flattering on everyone. The bridal party was all different heights...Im talking from 5 feet to 6'1' so the dress ended at all different lengths... it was shorter on some and longer on others. The bride also didn't make us wear the same shoes...and I thought it looked strange in the pictures.

Normally i would say no not for a saturday night affair but since it is a summer wedding.. i think it would be ok but if your dress is heavy satin i would lean towards no personally for myself i wouldnt go for tea length but if you love it than it is totally up to you who cares what people think

Re: Tea length BM dresses
I really like the idea!! But my BMs are split down the middle here's what they've said :
Pro's - Can wear it again w/more freq. - More youthful & fun - Not as hot in the summer - Won't trip & fall (one of my BM is our group klutz & did this in both her sis & bro weddings ) - Can be dressed up or down dpending on hair, makeup, shoes & jewelry
Con's - Some feel it isn't as formal - Not always as forgiving to people who dont like their legs (huge debate..) - Typically look better with strappy shoes & thinner heels - BMs are upset that they now need to pay for pedicures & worried that they will be sinking into the grass when they walk & take pics - especially if the heels are too thin
These are just a few of the things they have agued with me - I'm neutral as of now - but they were 'somewhat' good points that you may or may not agree with! Good luck!

You can do wahtever you want! I am doing a pink tea length dress for a Friday night in September. My dress is 'formal' but I don't think it matters. My BMs LOVE the dress, they actually picked it out, and will wear it again. That was most important to me, that the BMs are happy.

I plan on doing pink tea-lengths for a Fri night wedding in July. I don't see anything wrong with it...its a great, modern yet classic look!

I am (99%sure) I am using pink tea length dresses for a July Sun evening wedding. I think they can be dressed up and are great for a summer wedding. Go with what makes you and your girls comfortable. For me, it seems to work. Good luck!!

I dealt with the same issue. If you want your wedding to be formal, I would go against it. If you don't, then go for it. For me, I am wearing gloves and its black tie optional- so a lot of people told me (and I agreed) that T length dresses are better for an informal wedding. (plus I am much taller than all my BM).

Tea length are definitley in style right now, but are not meant for a formal wedding. If you dress is formal the BM dress should be too.

Re: Tea length BM dresses
Dont be silly its not the 1950's. Formal/informal..... who cares what people think. You can dress up any dress with heels, jewelry and hair.
P.s. I have been in many wedding parties before and those long, thick dresses are a complete waste of money. People say that they can cut them and use them again and they never do.
Go with tea length!!! Your wedding party will thank you.
