I have a little problem that I did not think of when I picked out my bridesmaid dresses. Two of my bridesmaids live in LI and the other two live in NJ. The girls got their dresses and there are some minor alterations that need to be done on their tops. The one that I am concerned about is the bottoms of the dresses. If you have to cut the bottom because it's too long, how do I do it? My FSIL (one of the bridesmaids) said that the hem should be done based on the shortest girl (with her shoes on). Then all the others should be based on that one from the floor to the hem of the dress. They are getting their alterations done at different places so I don't want them to have it at different lengths.....
Has anyone been in a wedding party tea length or have BM dresses that are tea length....how do you handle this?
Thanks!

Re: Tea Length Dress Alterations
I would ask all the girls to come to one place and they their alterations done together. For the inconvinience of them having to go there I would offer to pay for it. And then you can all have a fun lunch together afterwards! XOXOXOXO Kitty

i have the same problem...not all of the girls were there for the fittings so the seamstress has this ruler thingy that measured the shortest girl from the floor to the hem line that we agreed on. Just tell your seamstress to take note of the # of inches between the floor and the hem and you should be good.

Re: Tea Length Dress Alterations
Not all of my girls dresses were the same length. I had them all alter them to mid calf length this way the dress looked 'right' on each girl.
They turned out fine.

Re: Tea Length Dress Alterations
When I was in a Bp with tea length dresses. The seamstress altered the dresses according to how the dress fit on the tall girls. Meaning that that the other dresses had to be altered so that it would hit their mid-calf. (or certain amt of inches above their ankle)

We didn't cut our dresses even though they were tea length and we were all different heights.
we r cutting the dresses cause all of my girls are short and it looks silly. the lady is altering them from the waist. that is where she is taking fabric from. and yes, i would suggest that all your girls get altered by the same person.

Re: Tea Length Dress Alterations
i wore a tea length dress for my sisters wedding and the pictures look dumb with differnt hem lengths. apparently, we were supposed to tell our tailor (all three BM were in different states) a measurement from the GROUND to the HEM, so they all fall say... 24 inches from the ground. hope this helps.

Re: Tea Length Dress Alterations
IT SHOULD BE BASED ON THE TALLEST GIRL!!! If you do the shortest girl the tallest will have a mini skirt and I do not think you want that!!!!

Re: Tea Length Dress Alterations
i am pretty sure it goes by the tallest girl. thats how they measured for my girls. are they wearing the same shoes? mine are wearing the same shoes and according to the measurements, its 10 inches from the hem to the ground with shoes...so thats the measurement to go by for all of my girls---they are all getting their alterations done at the same place, but if they werent i dont thin kit would be a problem (as long as they have the same shoes or same height shoes). good luck~lacey
