Student teaching is an amazing experience... jump right in there and have fun.. it's a lot of work, but well worth it. I don't know much about Central Islip SD, but I am sure you'll be just fine!!!

student teaching was a lot of fun. it was interesting to see different teaching styles and awesome to work with different grade levels. IMO, get involved and work hard...you want to leave an impression that unforgettable for a position that might open up

I did my student teaching last spring semester in Massapequa. It was nice, but I am so glad I never have to do it again, it made me extra poor..haha.

LOVED student teaching. I hope you get a great cooperating teacher. The experience is invaluable. Learn as much as you can, and enjoy it!

Re: Teacher brides

student teaching can be great esp if you get a good cooperating teacher....i student taught in two grades and only one teacher let me actually teach! its great practice and experience....you will def discover what KIND of teacher you will be ! good luck!

Re: Teacher brides

maybe it's different when you do secondary (more grading and such? more obnoxious students? dealing with pure teenage hormones?), but although I definitely loved student teaching, it was EXHAUSTING, and very stressful at times.

I got handed a particularly difficult class though...

so, enjoy, but I think it's fair to just let you know - be prepared to be worn out at the end of the day!

Re: Teacher brides

I didn't have a fantastic student teaching experience. I mean I did a lot of work and I learned so much of what I DON'T want to be like which is great. I just had some bad cooperating teachers. Otherwise the kids and overall teaching experience was great. I student taught in Bellmore 3 years ago. This is my first year teaching on my own and I can definitely say I am a lot like my very first cooperating teacher. It's interesting once you get your own classroom! Enjoy your experience!

thank everyone!

In the fall I will only be part-time student teaching and then in the spring, full time, with my the semester being split with me student teaching 2 different grades so I will have a lot of experiences when I'm done! Thanks for all the advice and kind words!

You'll love it. Just don't be afraid to ask questions. I teach fourth grade and supervised two student teachers this year. As a teacher, you get so busy during the day finding the time time to really talk was difficult at times. That is why I welcomed questions...you never know what the student teacher already knows.

Also, if you can make the time to set up some meeting times, that worked well for us. One of my student teachers was able to stay after school every once in a while and we had agendas for our meetings (I know that sounds dorky, but it worked out well). The other one was fantastic too, but worked everyday after school, so we couldn't meet. We just discussed what we could as we went, but I don't think she got an accurate view of the the whole planning process.

Good luck...if you have any questions, FM me!
