i got notification today that i passed my video (yay!!! ). so i'm all set for my permanent certification. Does anyone know if i have to do anything from here - or does the state take care of it for me and i'll get notice that i'm permanently certified. they were very very vague in the letter!!
i'd appreciate any help i can get because i hate dealing with the state when it comes to these things!!! and i'm relatively new at this teaching stuff, so i really have no clue!
thanks!!

Re: teacher certification question
You need to apply for certification. Check that State Ed dept website or with the grad school you attended. I believe it is another 100 bucks and an aapplication that you must fill out.

Re: teacher certification question
Question re: the video. When are you able to do the video part? How many years of teaching do you need to have? Do you need to have taken all the other tests?

Re: teacher certification question
Question..I just finished my Masters program...
My provisional certification was issued on 9/00...the back says that I have 5 years form that date to get permanently certified. I just have to do my video, which I plan to do this year. Do I have to do it in September/October because of the new requirements, or do I have until 2005????

Re: teacher certification question
i believe the video has to be done within 5 years of your provisional certification. i just finished my first year of teaching and i wanted to get it over with as soon as possible! mostly because i know they change the requirements so freakin' often!!
the workshops you speak of - which ones are they? is it like the violence prevention, etc.?

Here is the link to the application for permanent certification. It tells you everything you need to know.
Miss you might be grandfathered in but i would call boces on that one and ask!

Re: teacher certification question
No one is grandfathered in under the new requirements. A teacher I work with just had this conversation with BOCES.
Do your video now and save yourself MUCH aggravation!!!

Re: teacher certification question
What if I don't have two years teaching experience yet. I got let go last year because my district downsized. I don't even know if I will have a classroom to do it in this year!!!
