Teacher Interview Q's/Process HELP!

As I mentioned I have 2 interviews tomorrow, one for EC & one for elementary.

What kind of Q's can I expect?

What kind of q's should I ask?

What is everyday math?

I need a bit more help w/ the ELA block in the public school (what do they want to hear/know from me?)

Also, generally what is the process, esp. since school starts next week? I'll be meeting w/ both principals.

Thanks so much.

Wish me luck!!!!!!

Good luck!

Everyday Math is the program that is used in the city now. I know nothing about it other than that, but if you Google it, I bet it will lead you to the publisher's site, and I bet you can find some info there.

As for literacy, balanced literacy is the thing. They may ask how you'd put together a lesson, but it seems like each region has its own philosophy. There are lots of elements of BL: shared reading, guided reading, independent reading, word work, guided and independent writing, etc. The DOE's website probably has a better overview than the one I can give you, and it's likely that they'll want to see how much you know about the DOE's ideas on BL. The site is NYCENET.edu

Honestly, with school starting, I won't be surprised if you are offered a position on the spot. Then I suppose you will be sent to the Region office to do paperwork.

Good luck! Yes, I agree, balanced literacy is the buzz right now, it's basically incorporating all kinds of reading & writing into your teaching(just like mentioned above) Reading & writing workshop are also becoming popular. I use them and they really work out great.

Lots of times, they ask you about parent communication and differentiated instruction is another biggie. Basically differentiating your teaching to meet the needs of all your students. I'll let you know if I think of anything else........

Re: Teacher Interview Q's/Process HELP!

we use everyday math in my school....it is basically a spiral curriculum where you touch on a concept in Kind, repeat it (and elaborate ) in 1st gr. and so on through the grades. At the kindergarten level it is alot of learning through games and centers...also learning through the calendar (graphing, #'s, tallying, etc.)

At the ECE interview definitely expect q's about how to incorporate WW into the curriculum, classroom management, and parent communication.

Good luck!
