Teacher interview Questions: Middle Grades

Teacher interview Questions: Middle Grades

I'm interviewing for a 6th grade position in a middle school on Monday, and it's my first interview in a middle school.

I've been on 5 interviews, but they've all been in Elementary - so I was wondering if questions would change at all in middle school - different behavior questions, etc.

TIA!

since hormones come into play at that age, they may ask you questions regarding how you'd handle emotions with girls. I interviewed in a high school and the principal asked me how I'd handle boys with crushes on me (b/c of my age).

ETA: How would you handle a student and weapons? Got that one from a middle school principal.

How can you incorporate creativity into the social studies curriculum?

Is it for a specific subject?

What was your best/worse lesson?

What do you do if a lesson isn't going well?

What do you do if a student asks a question you do't know the answer to?

State standards? (I know NY has specific standards and tests to go along with them, and that usually comes into play)

How do you deal with parents?

Interdisciplinary lessons.

Re: Teacher interview Questions: Middle Grades

I've never interviewd for elementary, but 6th grade is usually considered the transition from elementary to secondary, so I think they will be pretty similar.

oh - just thought of another one.....

why do you want to teach middle school, as opposed to elementary or high school?

Re: Teacher interview Questions: Middle Grades

Here are some common themes I have noticed. I'm middle/high school certified in social studies and reading.
1. They like to hear about differentiation of instruction.
2. What is so unique about middle school and why would you want to teach MS kids.
3. Using technology in the classroom is also big.
4.Interdisciplinary projects
5. Cooperation b/t other teachers or if it's an inclusion class how would you use the inclusion teacher.
6. Motivating kids
7. I also think it's important to talk about how you would use trade books to teach social studies.
Will post more if I can think of some more.

Im currently a middle school teacher, and I remember when I interviewed, state tests was a huge 'buzz word.' They wanted to know what you would do to prepare your class for the tests, how far in advance you would prepare, etc.

Also, incorporating ELA into every content area is huge too...they may ask what type of Social Studies lesson can you do that would incorporate some English Language Arts into it?

They will also ask some random questions.... like 'What is on your night table right now?'

Hope this helps!!!

DO NOT OVERPLAN!!!

That's the best advice I can give you. If you plan too much (which is what new teachers tend to do), you'll not get through your lesson, and not have time for your wrap up.
