I teach secondary ed math and will be new to the district this year. I just got a flier in the mail that they need a grade level advisor. This is something I would definitely be interested in as I really like to be involved. Do you think I would be putting to much on my plate to volunteer myself for the position?
Has anyone on this board ever had experience being a grade level advisor?

Re: Teacher Question
I am also a teacher and a grade advisor. It really is not that much work, but I think I would rather start my new job without added responsibilities. See how you feel after a few months (especially if this is your 1st teaching position) and then look for a club/activity to head. Remember that they need grade advisors each year as new classes enter the school, so this is always something you could do in your second year of teaching. Then again, it depends on you. It is a good foot in the door, as administration always likes to see their faculty involved in extracurricular activities. Best of luck!

Re: Teacher Question
Go for it! Schools love when new teachers take upon additional activities! Plus, it gives you a chance to get to know the students as well! I've always advised extra-curricular activities and coached since my first year teaching!
Good luck w/your new job!!!

Re: Teacher Question
I think it's a great idea to get involved with that! It'll let you get to know the kids on a different level, and show the school taht you are involved - which they love! Go for it!!
