Re: teachers!!!!

Well in my 3rd grade class I just had them graph their Halloween candy. I had some great ones w/ actual wrappers used, very colorful.

You can bring in a box of Lucky Charms or a big bag of M&M's & have them graph by color or shape.

i had a second grade class last year and we did graphing with jelly beans. we graphed different colors, different patterns, and some had different shapes.
good luck

Re: teachers!!!!

when i taught 4th grade, we did everything straight forward--no food or fun things like the lower grades. have them graph things about them--learning style preference, abilities etc

BTW, NEVER use m&ms for anything!!! even plain ones. anyone with a peanut allergy (and there may be some you don't know about because parents can be secretive ) can have a reaction.

I think you can do so much with graphing that is hands on. I think anything with food is good, but again like someone else said, check for allergies. One of the best graphing lessons I did was when I polled the whole class on a topic (like fav. ice cream, etc.) then we put together the graph. After, I had them come up with a topic and choices and then poll their classmates. The students loved this because they were able to get up and move around and interact with their peers. Then they put together their graphs and handed them in. Good luck!
