My principal just warned teachers about this last week. They told us to watch for any girls wearing them and to confiscate them if they saw them. I had no idea they stood for sex acts. I used to wear them as a kid, but we all competed to see who could have the most, that was our game.

ETA - I work in an elementary school and the girls have been wearing them. I was totally shocked to find out a few weeks ago that a certain crowd of fifth graders are dating. They seriously go out to the movies together and their parents drop them off!!

Not only is this incredibly sad, but it makes me want to vomit when I think of my niece....it is such a crazy thing that kids can no longer be kids, makes me wonder whether I want kids.......

My school banned them in the beginning of the year because of this... what will they think of next?

Sadly they go from toddlers to young adults. We were told about them a while ago in my school, though we have not seen many of those, we had a problem about 4 years back and still going on with our 7th and 8th graders having Blow job parties

Jamie, are those the 'rainbow parties' that I've heard about??

They are not called Rainbow parties, in my school. They do not use the bracelets. But I think the Rainbow parties are for the braceletes since they are the color of the rainbow, which color the boy snaps off, is which act the girl must perform

I teach 2nd grade in Brooklyn and thought nothing of it when the girls were wearing them. Then a few boys in my class told me all about this and what it meant. Then I told some other teachers who nothing about it. Then weeks later that article came out. I was shocked! I mean 2nd grade? Imagine ? These kids today know more then we ever did so early on.

OMG... this is un-freakin-believable!!! Aren't those the same things we wore in the 80's? If I saw a student wearing them now, I'd be excited and tell them how I used to have them too. Can you imagine them thinking I wore them for the same kind of game?!

this is outrageous! Things are getting worse and worse and I have no idea how it could get better.

htis is crazy - and i had heard about it before too....however, i do think that it wasn't fair to identify the girl not only in the story but also with a picture.....this is surely something that could come bnack to haunt her for years to come......good for her, telling someone about it so maybe people who hadn't heard about this craze can be aware...but i wonder why even the wirters wouldn't worry about her picture being there for so many to see????

kids grow up so fast today...the other thing that worries me is that they obviously are not using protestion being they are so young.....

OMG! I work in a High School, and one of my male students was wearing a black bracelet 2 weeks ago. I had no idea what it meant. Does anyone remember those rubber bracelets from the 80's?? I told my student that I used to wear bracelets just like those. I don't think they had the same meaning back then.

as far as i know they didn't - at least in my case - i wore tons of them back in like 2 and 3rd grade and boy have 'fashions' changed b/c they just were cool to wear, certainly no representative of what i was doing!!!! (I didn't even know about some of this stuff back then!!)
