NYSUT info on certification

This link might give you some answers. I had it saved in my favorites. I didn't really read through it. Hope it helps.

It is the NYS office of teaching home page. It will tell you what you need. I am Special Ed certified, but I got it 2 yrs ago before the regs changed.

I'm TSHH (or whatever they call it now). I'd check the site or call BOCES. It is always good for a teacher to have the sp. ed. cert.!

I'm also a TSHH. Sasha do you work in a NYC or LI school?

Me too...so I don't really know what to tell you....maybe you should contact the state and find out or speak to someone at the college

I am certified in elementary ed and in special ed. I finished my masters last year and I had to have 31 credits or 33 I can't remember and I also had to student teach in the summer even though I am a full time teacher already.. those were Hofstra's requirements

Thanks girls, with all the new regulations, the state won't answer the phone (do you BELIEVE that??) and they won't accept email, so I'm on my own to figure out whether or not I meet the requirements.

Thanks for your advice - I think I'm going to take the last 4 classes this summer and just apply for the certification, the worse they could say is that I'm missing something, right?

You should call the Suffolk County BOCES center 289-2200 and have a trans evaluation to check everything you need.
