Teachers - April Break Honeymoon??

Teachers - April Break Honeymoon??

My travel agent called me today and our airfare is up to almost $3000 from JFK to St. Lucia!!!! what the %$%^!?! We can't book it until FH gets his passport in the mail but it just keeps going up. We went to Hawaii last year and our airfare wasn't even that much!!!

Anyone else having this issue!? I might have to re-schedule and take time off of work which is what I definitely didn't want to do.

Ugh!! That sucks! Are you flying first class? We didn't pay anywhere near that when we went but we were in coach.

Jetblue flies nonstop to st. lucia now, and it's much cheaper than that!!! I'm going in May, but I've seen anywhere between 450 and 650 r/t for each person

EDIT: WOW i just looked up on jetblue from sun apr. 13-sun apr. 20 and it's $1596 roundtrip per person... I would definitely wait on it though because it's still so far away. Keep checking periodically and wait until you see the prices go down a bit. Typically, Tuesday at like 11pm is the best time to check airline prices (i have no clue why, but i read that somewhere once and it's usually true)

This may not be ideal but have you tried looking at flights leaving from Newark. I've found during the busy travel season you can get cheaper flights from flying out of there. Also, check United Airlines. There main hub is out of Newark so they have a lot of non-stop flights to places. I was curious and checked out there site if you go from 4/12-4/19 they have a flight for 786.

I booked a round trip flight out of JFK to st Lucia for way less than that but my HM is in May. Also I was able to book the flight and don't have my passport yet. Laguardia or Newark may be cheaper if that's possible for you.

I'll definitely look into those other airports to see if it will be any cheaper!! And no, flying JetBlue so the extra legroom is as good as it gets! Haha. Looks like I may have to move the dates around a little ...thanks for all your help!

I always travel during those breaks (April or February) and its always more. I just pay it though because there's nothing else that we can do.

Crashing.... We got married 3/23/13 and left for our St. Lucia honeymoon that Monday which was the Monday of spring break for NY schools. We flew Jetblue and didn't book our tickets until 8 weeks before traveling. We paid about $1,400 round trip for the tickets. We stayed 11 days so the flight back was after the spring break rush, not sure if that made a difference but either way $3k more is just insane! I would wait for a better deal for sure!!

Thanks! I'm just worried that the longer I wait, I'm either going to be out of luck because they'll be booked or that the prices will get out of control high! I'm thinking that I may move it three days before the break starts just so that I can save a few hundred - I'm sure the cost of my hotel would go down too, I just have to ask my job what they think.

Did you stay at La Toc?

Ugh everything is always so expensive during school breaks! If you can change the days around a bit it may be better, like leave on Wednesday night instead of Friday?

We stayed at the Grande and LOVED it! We went to La Toc one day to golf and have dinner at the French restaurant. It has a much smaller more intimate feel to it. I would spring for the Grande if you can. The beach and facilities are nicer. Many la Toc guests were coming to the grande every day to use their facilities.

We're actually staying at La Toc because FH isn't a huge beach person and since it's our HM I didn't want to be selfish. He likes to lay out once in a while, but we're doing so many excursions that we won't really be able to utilize it anyway. We sprung for a room at La Toc with a pool in it though and definitely plan on going to the Grande and Halycon Beach to check on all the resorts and their restaurants!

on a side note: do you need your passport to book a flight for international travel usually?? I just booked a flight to Colombia and didn't need any passport information. I haven't even applied yet! lol
