Teachers: Do you have a pet?(not a fluffy kind)

Do you have a teacher's pet in your class? Is it obvious and do you feel guilty about it?

I have a clan of girls who compete to be the 'teacher's helper'. It's actually very funny the way they look at each other when they get to do something, like pass out papers or whatever. I don't treat any of my kids differently though...I'm a beyotch to all of them...

yes, 30 of them!

steph! you're so funny! i have the same thing...kids who are desperate to be my monitors.
'paper? i'll be your paper monitor!!!'

oh, and then i have two girls who compete to be my bodyguard.

i have about 6 kids who ask me every morning at 8:32 'can i come up at lunch today and monitor?' and they don't get it when i say i have no work, or i need to eat lunch alone today or i have errands. this one makes me laugh, b/c that is what i say when i have to go to the bathroom, so this one boy, chris, is like 'i can run your errands for you!!!' and i'm like, not this one sweetie!!!

but as for pets...we have cacti, plastic turtles and sea monkey eggs that they are dying to hatch. i just have to buy distilled water. and they want fish. so i think i'm gonna get a fish.

duh... no. there are kids that i am more understanding to. ie: the kids who always go above and beyond all the time and then one day, feel horrible b/c they were sick and couldn't do their h/w or even forgot to do an assignment...i am def. more understanding to them. but as far as a favorite. no.

I don't have one pet per say. I have students that will always ask me (especially now that I am PG) do you want me to hand that out for you, do you need help with anything etc. I have some children that are more quiet and do not like attention. I will try and reach the quiet child and bring them out but if it doesn't work I will back off. I also have some kids that I will joke with more only because I understand their personalities or sense of humor more, not because I favor them.

i do have kids that try to act like that but I have two class assistants for the week- a boy and a girl. each week, they are the line leaders, paper passers, erase boards, lunch count, take garbage out of classroom... they are multitasking!! :) it eliminates the confusion. and the jobs they have are all throughout the day

No, I definitely don't. I worked with emotionally disturbed kids for a while and I think the risidual effects of that come in the form of not trusting ANY child completely They all have an agenda I do love the entire first grade though. But that's because they're innocent and snuggly and always want hugs. How can you not love them all?

There are some kids that may be more likable than others, but I treat all of my kids the same. I made it a point when I became a teacher to find at least one positive trait in each student and to focus on those good things when the unlikable traits come out

I have the ones in my class that have just touched my heart. But I dont think it is obvious, and I definatly dont feel guilty about it. I love them all, but for different reasons.

I have 8 kids in my class. I teach special ed. I have had most of them for at least 3 years. I don't know if I'd say I have a favorite, but I do wrestle with myself when I do not like a child. Just like I don't have to like all adults, I do not have to like all children so I don't sweat it. I am a professional, I do my job and I do it well. Anyone else have THAT issue?

oh yeah!!! i mean, i love my kids, all of them, even the pitas. but i don't LIKE them all. i have a handful (3/30) that are the biggest PITA's and there are days where i just don't have the desire to deal with them. but i don't hate any of them...i just don't like them everyday!
