I work in a School and had to cover detention. There was a student (7thgrade) who had detention for acting out in math class. He was to spend 45 min on math. Of course the teacher did not send work and he came empty handed. I also am not a special Ed teacher so I didn't know what to do. So what I did was give him a calendar and told him my wedding date. I said 'count how many days and hours till I get married. Then figure out a budget. I need __ favors at $, ___ guests at $ a person, DJ__ hours at $, limo and etc.' He was so happy to be doing this b/c it seemed fun and he was still working on his math skills. Hope you teachers out there enjoyed. I also kept the budget b/c now I don't have to do it!!

That's awesome! It has taken me sooo long to finally figure out that my students love to do my work for me! I love it! Great idea!
Of course I don't teach math - but I do have to think of good detention and extra credit ideas.
