I teach middle school, and my students want to come to the wedding. Since our families are different religions, we are getting married at Flowerfield.
I feel bad, because my friends who got married at churches/temples/etc. were able to allow students to attend the ceremony/etc...
It's not a big deal, but does anyone have any ideas for this?
(I'm a chorus teacher, too..so they want to sing there...which would be cute, but that would be very complicated to arrange...I'm the only chorus teacher at the school.)
Just wanted to pick your brains
Thanks!!

If you are a chorus teacher why dont you have some of your kids sing at your wedding ceremony.

Re: Teachers Getting Married at RH
Well, I teach four separate choruses...that are separated into different classes. My wedding is the Saturday of the winter break, and in my district (in a pretty affluent community), many of the students go away. Even with my chamber choir, middle school students have a tendency to commit to things and then back out of them if a family vacation interferes/etc. This will impact what repertoire will be suitable for the specific group of students who'd actually commit. Additionally, I could not have all 250 of my students come...so before checking to see who could or couldn't commit, I would have to select which students should perform/the hall could accomodate. Then, I would usually be conducting them...they'd be accompanied, etc.....so, yeah, I could arrange it...the most complicated part would really be deciding which group to choose (most likely the chamber choir). Other students would feel left out, unimportant, etc.... the RH is pretty far from where I teach...so their parents would have to drive them, etc.

Don't let kids come. I am a teacher too and told my (high school) students the church is fine. Since you will be getting married at your hall you risk kids seeing other teachers drinking and the kids (and parents) being there longer than you want them there.

I am a teacher too.. and I have kids begging everyday. Ill be honest.. I would NOT let kids come... SURE. it will be sweet, and cute.. BUT you need to keep your life outside of the classroom yours only.
This is just my opinion... SORRY if I offend anyone...
PLUS: With how laws are and stuff... I would just be extra carful about kids as a part of your social life.

I'm a teacher too. I am getting married at the RH so I am not inviting them. If I was getting married in a church, I would invite them. I remember going to my 5th grade teacher's ceremony at the church

Yeah, so far that was my opinion...so I think I'm just gonna leave it at 'no'. The only reason I asked is that people keep saying that I should have them there to sing, though, since I do chorus... but like I said- that will be too hard for me to coordinate
Thanks, ladies! And, thanks for the tip, but of course, my middle school students have absolutely nothing to do with my social life... I'm not into Justin Bieber, Twilight, or silly bands... (well ...maybe SOME silly bands... )

I just want to say that I agree...I'm a middle school teacher who got married at my RH too and I did not invite any students. I was afraid that they wouldn't leave when the ceremony was over and that I would be stuck with the bill afterwards lol. Plus the issue about blurring the line between your personal life and your professional life...too complicated What I did do was make a flip book on snapfish of my favorite wedding pics and shared those :)
