do you have your probationary license?
I thought after you completed all tests, got masters and send in video you are good to go.

I would call them

BUMP
I was wondering the same thing. I don't even know what the exact requirements are for permanent certification. I think we don't have to do the video anymore, right?

No, I graduated in 2000. I needed to get my permanent by 2005 but got a 2 year extension so I really need to file before 8/07. Of course I waited until the last minute.. why? I dont know.

Anyway, I have everything I need but I also need an application. I think m going to have to call NYSED. Thanks!

Amy, how did you get a 2 year extension? I graduated in 2002 and my provisional certification runs out this year.

I thought your provisional goes by when you start teaching not when you graduate.

Either way I am finishing all up now
I have to do the video. But I know they do not do the video anymore and there is no such thing as 'permanent' certification anymore for new graduats they now need 150 hours of prof development

If you are applying yourself, you need to register with the TEACH online file

TEACH

I'm going through the process soon so I've been up on the new procedures

I applied - it was very easy. I planned on taking my thesis class last and when I went to sign up for it I was closed out and I needed it then!! I wrote to teachers at Stony Brook and begged for them to add me and they said they couldnt do it so I needed to file for an extension.

I have until 8/07 to file for permanent. I graduated in 2000 with provisional. I had until 2005 to get permanent. With my extension I have until 8/07.

I figured it out! I'm all good! I called the NYSED and they said to just mail in recent transcript and proof youve taken workshops.

Heres where I applied - It was very easy and fast and cost $100

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now last question, I think. My certification and degrees are in my maiden name but my SS# is now in my married name. So I should fill out the application with my married name and they'll see that it had been changed, right?

Re: Teachers - help applying for permanent teaching certification

No, I looked that up and if I read it correctly it seems they want you to fill it out in whatever name your provisional cert was in??

I believe you can change your name easily after you get your new certification.

To change your name on your certs, you need to send in a copy of your marriage license to Albany. Though I am not fully convinced that it is necessary to do. My sister has been married for the last 17 years of her carreer and has never been questioned.
