Teachers I have a question for you

I was curious. How many hours of mandatory professional developement does your district require??

Are they done after school or are you pulled out?


In my district we have 15 hours and it is after school. However, I was one of a few (7) teachers selected to implement online professional development. So I will be teaching a course on line, that teachers can take for 7.5 of their hours.

ETS: all after or before school. However some district level meetings during lunch period etc. can count.

Our new contract is up for approval and if they go for more hours I will flip. That is one of the nice things about these on line course you can do them at home, though you have to submit a project to prove that you did 7.5 hours but the projects are easy.

There are 6 of us (the 7th person never showed up)that are going through the training- these are the course that I know so far

1. Science for the elementary classroom- not sure what her project will be
2. Teaching to an add/adhd child (or something like that) I read the syllabus and sounds great- I am actually considering taking it! Her project is something completing a road map and/or plan to deal with add/adhd in your classroom
3. One is Powerpoint Level II- Project will be a PP presentation with a lot of bells and whistles
4. Kagan Structures and Cooperative learning-(my class) project will be to submit two grouping charts (sort of like seating charts) and 2 lesson plans that you used 2 of the structures we discussed
5. SS research online (Something like that) this one is about researching other countries cultures and customs and coming up with a research database. The database will be the final project
6. To be honest I don't know what this teacher is doing

Then the person who piloted this program is teaching on line webquests for 15 hours but she does that one for the whole state through NYSUT I believe.

I have to say we are lucky we have such a good teacher's center.
