Teachers, I have a substitute question...

Teachers, I have a substitute question...

As some of you know, I am sick to death of the corporate slave world and have decided to finally pursue a teaching career. I am taking my alt certification exam on 3/5 and I am in the process of applying in my county (in NJ).

If I wanted to substitute (you only need 60 college credits), could i become a full time sub while I am working on my certification? I want to sign up for it but being that my slave duties take up 40+ hrs per week, I don't want to do it unless I know that I can go. Does that make sense?

Are there full time Sub needs? Kind of like floaters?

I had friends who did this while waiting for permanent positions. They were basically guaranteed every day, but there were no benefits as a sub, and the pay was not great.

My girlfriend subs for Smithtown and Hauppauge school districts and gets more work than she can take. She works everyday. The pay is not terrible, but she does not have benefits, which is the major downfall.

Schools do have perm sub positions where you automatically show up every day but those are typically filled at the beginning of the school year. I would sign up with a few districts so you netter your chances of always getting called.

We have perm subs too and subs that we call on a steady basis even though they are not permanent sub but in my district (Jersey could be different) will not call you unless we are desperate without a college degree.

You can only work a certain amount of days without a certification (at least that's what it is in NY)
