I am writing some cover letters and am not sure what the new educational lingo is in LI. I know I have lots of things to change because I included so many 'catch phrases' from the city. When I was applying in the city, they were so focused on you knowing the new vocabulary.

Re: Teachers I need your help
Sounds good. I have lots of experience in differentiating instruction as my district uses balanced literacy and math.

I agree with everyone else - make sure you mention ways in which you can differentiate your instruction in order to meet the needs of the diverse learners in your classroom.

I'd also mention your ability to form good relationships with parents.

Re: Teachers I need your help
Do I mention that I have taught towards the state exams, or that I have graded the exams, or both?

Re: Teachers I need your help
I'd say both. If you did both, then let them know. Or have it on your resume. You don't want your cover letter to be too long, they hardly read it.

Re: Teachers I need your help
Never say that you taught 'towards' the exams, that sounds like 'teaching to the test' even though we all know the reality
I would phrase it differently like, 'adequately prepared students for state exams'

Re: Teachers I need your help
technology... goes along with differentiated instruction but i know my district is big on ability to use new tech. and/or willingness to learn how to use it. Many schools now have interactive whiteboards (SMARTboards).
