Teachers I need your help, again!

Teachers I need your help, again!

I think I've asked more teaching related questions then wedding questions.

My principal called me into her office today at 5 minutes to three and told me she would like me to do a demo lesson Monday morning for a 5th grade position. I'm a TA there now and she originally told me she wasn't considering me for this position because she sees me as a primary teacher. I don't know what made her change her mind.

She wants me to do a Social Studies lesson for a constructive response to a DBQ. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do for this lesson? It seem like a difficult lesson to make fun and interesting. I would appreciate anyone's advice. Thank You!!!

Good luck, JennyO
I'm not a teacher though...so I can't help.

ahhh, the dbq. . basically, and this was a year ago and my planner is at school, i would make sure that they repeated the question. organize their responses. using a political cartoon from the depression era, you can discuss all the possible explanations that make the cartoon funny but sadly true. then using a graphic organizer, outline it. you need an intro paragraph that essentially repeats almost word for word the question on the test. then you have the body paragraphs. using the explanations mentioned, support them. i emphasized over and over that whatever you say, you must support and just when you think you supported it enough, support your answer even more. and then have a conclusion that restates the question.

i used this analogy. hamburger buns! the top and bottom bun are made out of the same ingredients but look different. therefore, the intro and conclusion are made of the same idea/question, but are worded differently. then the body is the burger and in order to make a tasty juicy burger, you need to add cheese and lettuce and tomatoe and ketchup (etc.) which is the support.

hope that helps!
