teachers--please help!

Hi everyone,
I am working on Masters in Edu.
I just found out I have an assignment due tomorrow that was listed incorrectly in the syllabus for my reading course!

I have to interview a reading specialist in a school (of course the one here is absent today) :(

please help me out. you can fm me with your answers.

these are the interview questions:

1. what tools do you use to identify the needs of your studnets as readers?

2. what practices do you use that i can take back to my classroom?

3. Any other interesting info about the job of a reading specialist.

ps-- what do you know about the specialists in your school?

- i really appreciate your help.

xoxo,
k

Re: teachers--please help!

Was a reading Reading Specialist but I now I am a teacher of first grade.

1.Teacher assessment materials-such as capital letter/ lower case recognition charts (point to word and ask child to name it ansd it is improtant to ask out of sequence so that you can be sure the child knows the letter as well as the dolce sight words. A reading fluency assesment using the adopted reading series of that district. This as well as using standardized test data will help get a appropriate assement of current reading level.

2. Decodable Books that build on past words and add new word, reading games, puzzles, computer games, word walls. Reading everday words, story writing, Ouestion of the Day, Reading around the room (colorful interactive bullitn boards) reading center with meaningful activities, books on tape/cd, songs/music about reading(Shake, Rattle and Read-Jack Hatmann, plays/dramatization of reading, choral reading, reading acroos curriuclum, high interest reading, comic books, putting the closed caption on a tv program or movie. Practical daily reading (field trips to restaruants (reading menus, street signs etc..) Rhyming, ceiling to floor reading(big peice of paper that you write a word on and then change 1 letter each time Ex. cat, bat, bar, car, far), tons of others too many to mention!!!

3. Rewarding,1 on 1 with the student is the best part of the job

Hope this helped!!!!
