What is your school planning on doing on September 11th. Also is there anything special you will be doing in your classroom relating to September 11th. I am trying to decide what to do and I am not quite sure how far I should go with it. I teach fifth grade. Thank you!!

Re: TEACHERS- Please Read
not sure yet. I work in a high school, and my students are starting to talk about it already. I know we are doing a moment of silence, and last year we had a plaque made for all 4 flights that crashed.

I work in a high school so I don't know if my plans will work for you, but it may give you some ideas. The social studies, English, and art classes will do something related to 9/11. My social studies class will be reading an article titled 'What is the Right Response?' and answer questions. We will then have a discussion about how this country should observe 9/11 and whether the schools need to play a role in this or not. In addition, we are having silent passing in between periods.

I work in a primary school (k-2) so we are keeping things light. The entire school is wearing red, white, and blue, and we will be joining hands on the playground and singing God Bless America.
Our art teacher has been working on a school wide project which will be displayed throughout the school on 9/11, called 'A Clothesline of Love'. Every child created a red, white, and blue article of clothing which will be hung on a clothes line to represent patriotism and unity.

We are a Catholic elementary school and we are observing a moment of silence. Also the 7th grade is making a chain of love. They are making a huge paper chain and every child is putting down a person they would like to pray for.

This year, I believe we are simply doing a moment of silence.....I feel this is best, and I agree with my principal's decision on this.

Re: TEACHERS- Please Read
Ok, so we discussed this today at our faculty meeting and we agreed (well, the headmaster decided) to have the kids circle around the flagpole (?) have a moment of silence, and say some words. Personally, I think the moment of silence alone would haev been enough, and the most appropriate, but at least we're doing something.
