Re: TEACHERS>>>>DID YOUR BUDGET PASS???
Our's didn't pass One of the main problems is not the taxes, becasue I happen to work in a very wealthy district.... the community doesn't like the superintendant, and so i believe that a lot of them voted no for the budget as a way to tell him they are not happy with the job he is doing. this is a budget that has already cut out educational programs and teaching positions....one teacher in my department was let go last week..... so what are they going to do next? cut more? it's very very scary

Swags, I don't know what schools those children came from but the education of all the people I know who went to Catholic school was of much higher quality. In fact, all the public school kids who switched to Catholic school switched because they could not get a good education in the public school. And yes, you have to educate every child but every child who attends a Catholic school is paid for by their parents. And those parents also pay public school taxes. And the teachers in Catholic schools receive even less in the way of school supplies than the public school teachers. And TAs? Didn't even exist in Catholic school - the teachers did everything. Public school has lots of perks and extras, many of which are not necessary in my opinion. Catholic schools are lacking in certain areas as well, but it is definitely not in the basics. I have yet to meet a graduate from a public high school who can diagram a sentence - most don't even know what that means. And forget proper grammar.
I'm not knocking public schools - I just think that the money is not spent properly.

Re: TEACHERS>>>>DID YOUR BUDGET PASS???
Being a student of Catholic schools, a former teacher at a Catholic school, and now a teacher in a public school.. I'll have to say that it's not the fact that students get a better education there at all.. there is a different atmosphere there as well. Many parents choose Catholic schools for religious reasons, but in the same time value an education... in my experiences in Catholic schools, parents always were interested in their lives and were there to help with work.. maybe it's just the particular school district that I work in, but a lot of my students don't even have someone at home who cares what goes on in school and dont care if they fail.. that being said, Catholic schools also receive money from the parish.. the cost of tuition is rising and when I worked in Catholic schools two years ago, I was being paid $25,000 a year, which is almost impossible to support yourself with, especially for new teachers out of school who have other expenses to pay for.. I don't know.. my district's budget didn't pass.. prices are going up for everything around us and instead of complaining about school districts, people should complain more that prices for other things are going up (gas, milk, etc).. THanks.. oh yeah, one thing in my school districts proposed budget for next year is for the middle school (yes, the one I work in) to have police officers in the school.. none of that in my Catholic school
