Re: teachers....HELP ME!!!
Well, I am not sure what age-level you teach, but I have dealt with this with 9th graders. Basically, I pull the student aside to have a serious talk with them about appropriate language and respect...and then I assign detention.

I make it quite clear in front of the entire class that this language is inappropriate in school. I say things like 'We don't talk like that here.' (in my stern teacher voice lol.) Then, I will talk to him/her alone briefly and in a calm manner explain why it is inappropriate to use those words in school and I will also call home to let the parents know what was said.

Re: teachers....HELP ME!!!
hes a behavior problem...i call home at least once a week, but this is the first time a curse has been used.
its just frustrating because somewhere along the line something went wrong in the lines of communication.

Re: teachers....HELP ME!!!
Third grader? My second graders have potty mouths. One of my boys wrote a girl in my class a note during lunch saying, 'You are stupid. Go to h@ll!' I know, it's very frustrating. They obviously hear it at home. How could parents just curse around the house in front of their kids?
I make it very clear in front of the whole class that that's a word that belongs in the toilet. Then, have a private conversation with the student. In this case, I told him that he would not be allowed to enter my classroom the next day without writing an apology note to the other girl. I would tell that child that he needs to write an apology note and promise that he will never use that language in your classroom again. Make sure you call the parent and make him/her aware of his responsibility (to write an apology).
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!! (I have a TERRIBLE bunch this year!)

Re: teachers....HELP ME!!!
i teach middle school. i'd end up pulling the kid out in the hallway, making him/her feel really uncomfortable for having behaved disrespectfully, calling home, and writing a low-level referral. that'd be if the kid used it deliberately toward someone in the classroom. if it was a dumb slip or something, i'd stop at the hallway convo and let it be a warning.

i spoke with the mom and set up an appointment for a meeting in school, since this is not the first major behavioral issue.
he spit on 2 girls on Thursday, he cries and throws temper tantrums almost every day.

Re: teachers....HELP ME!!!
I teach high school and I dont even allow my students to say Shut Up in my classroom. I give them detention when they do.
I would contact his parents, and give him another consequence like no recess or something. Let him and everyone else know thats unacceptable and that is not how you speak in class. 'You want to curse and act crazy than go out into the street, you want to learn and be smart, then you speak politely in my class', don't have to raise your voice, just give him that stern teacher voice, follow up by a 'Do I make my self clear', and have him respond 'yes', not 'um hmm' Then let him know his consequence and keep it movin. Go back to your lesson. You just won the battle, scared the crap out of him, and set the example for the rest of the class.

You may have an ED case on your hands. Does he have an IEP?

Re: teachers....HELP ME!!!
Ha...if only that was my worst problem. (no offense)
My first year....a student threatened to shoot me!
I guess I am desenthsized to these kind of things at the type of school i teach at.
Just last week a PARENT dropped the F bomb, S bomb, N bomb right in front of their child when speaking to all of their childs teachers (including myself), the dean, and AP!
