Re: TEACHERS...is anyone worried about their jobs???
I hate to be the bearer of bad news...one of my groomsman has already been told he will be 'excessed out' because he is the last hire in his math dept. He works in Amityville, what district are you in?

Re: TEACHERS...is anyone worried about their jobs???
I have been in my district 15 years, teaching for 18 total, and this is the worst I have ever seen...scary and depressing!! Please go on the nysut website and continue to flood the politicians' inboxes with emails telling them that to cut education funding is a bad mistake. Please tell all your friends and family too...the more they hear from us, the more they will reconsider this decision, which is better for the children and will save jobs!! It is very easy to do if you have never done it...they have a form letter which you can use or you can edit it, and then they send it right from their site to the politicians. Takes about 1-2 minutes tops and it's worth it to have our voices heard and jobs saved!

I'm 4 years in and there are about 7 people below me (that I know of) but you never know what can happen so I'm nervous. My district is losing 16 million...

I'm at Eastport South Manor....I honestly think im safe (knock on wood) because all of our class sizes are maxed out and a few teachers already are teaching 6 classes instead of 5.

That's a good sign! Try not to think about it, I know that's hard to do!

My school is actually targeting special ed.....they are taking the special ed teachers and only putting them in the classrooms every other day and TA's will be in the classroom the other days...I think like 20 special ed teachers districtwide in my school

Re: TEACHERS...is anyone worried about their jobs???
what will they be doing on the days that they arent in the classroom?
I work in the city, and I use to work as a TA on the island. It seems like it is a very bad time for long island teachers, my heart goes out to you guys.
also my friend has been doing leave replacements for over 3 years. they never gave her a permanent position and now.. they have no more leave replacements for her, so they are making her a permanent sub which is crazy.. less pay.

Thanks for this. I will be doing this.
Everything is awful. I pretty much can guarantee that at our faculty meeting we will be hearing about this. We have already heard about specisl education and the cuts that will be happening. I am going to try and find out where I am on the list b/c every year cuts are mentioned. In our contract classes can not exceed a certain amount, so that is helpful, BUT I am worried I will be losing my aide next year. I teach Kindergarten. Kindergarten without a half day aide is going to be INTERESTING. Especially since they want more and more academically from children.
