TEACHERS...Question about Interviews...

TEACHERS...Question about Interviews...

In my grad class, its kind of a prep class to all of us changing careers..
We are being told all about preparing portfolios of our grad work, Units, Lessons, videos of us doing a lesson in class, etc etc. Did you actually bring portfolios to interviews even if you had never taught before? Or is this just something we're taught because its mandated, LOL ??

I CANT WAIT TO TEACH !!!!!!!!

(wont be for at least another 18mths)...

Thanks for any feedback

Anna - won't you be student teaching? Because then you will have actual lessons, pictures, examples, recommendations, etc to put in your portfolio. 'And yes, many teachers bring them on interviews, because at then end of many interviews (especially committee ones), they ask if you have anything to add, and that is a perfect time to show your portfolio. Hope this helped...

Yes, I will be student teaching ! (forgot about making stuff for the portfolio from student teaching ! )

I will probably student teach Sept 04 (just convenient with my babysitting plans, lol)
I hope I get something in my area when the time comes! I'll start prepping my portfolio!

My cousins kids go to Mount Pleasant, is that where you work? I know you said Smithtown.

Hahahaha - how did you know I work in Smithtown...??? I'll FM you what school I work at. It's not Mt. Pleasant.

Are you looking to student teach in Smithtown? What school do you go to? Cause some schools offer credits to cooperating teachers and some don't. Most teachers won't even consider a student teacher if they are not offered some sort of an incentive (like me). But I'm actually an elementary librarian, so it's a little different. If I was a classroom teacher, I would offer you my room!!!

Marnles,

I am a Smithtown graduate. I went to West when it was still West. I wonder if you teach in the elementary school that I went to. Which one are you at?

I am a teacher now and I would LOVE to be in your district. I work in the city and it is really tough. I am in a horrible area. Yesterday there were four fights in my room!

Oh my - that's HORRIBLE!! Are you in a High School?? I would hope 4 fights didn't break out on the elementary level!!!

Now is the time to send out resumes - schools all over are interviewing...but beware - major budget cuts are inevitible for all districts due to the backlash of 9/11 and state-aid reductions...
