Some of the nicest gifts I've received have been stationary sets, handmade chocolates from a great sweet shop in NYC, gift cards to stores I like/teacher stores/Simon giftcard. The worst was when a friend got headlights for a car as a gift...what makes that even funnier is that it wasn't even for her car's make/model!

Definitely gift cards. Or things that are very personal to the teacher, for example, last year a student had a canvas bag embroddiered with my new married name and inside the bag was all things I loved- Koosh ball, Hershey bar with almonds and bottle of Coke!!!!

I got one of my teachers a planner one year

However the best gift i ever gave a teacher was a homemade ornament. She loved it so much that she hung it on the blackboard the whole day. I was such a proud 2nd grader.
