if I got my provisional in Sept '01, how long do I have to get my permanent certification? Is it 3 years or 5?

Re: Teaching Certification
I can not be 100% positive, but I think it is 5 years from the date you get your teaching position.
I got my provisional in 1995 and did not start teaching until 1999 and then I got my permanent in 2003.

Re: Teaching Certification
You have 5 years. But you can extend it if you need to through your district if you just got a job. When in doubt call BOCES. They are VERY helpful.

Re: Teaching Certification
its 5 years...but of course I was lazy and waited until it expired...but it says it was issued in Feb, but printed in June...so its not even a big deal if you go over a few months

Re: Teaching Certification
you get 5 years, HOWEVER....
I was told in May that beginning in February '04 there will be no such thing as 'Permanent' certification. It is going to be called 'Professional' certification and it will need to be renewed every 5 years and you will need to take 75 credits every 5 years to maintain certification.
I'd find out about that - someone at my district office told me this, but I haven't heard of it elsewhere.
good luck!

Re: the CST. Is it true that the Elementary AND Early Elementary CST has been replaced with the Multi-subject test? I signed up for the oct. test.

Re: Teaching Certification
I think you would be grandfathered...my certification says it never expires...so I don't think they can take that away

Re: Teaching Certification
I haven't heard about the 75 credit thing either. I got my permanent certificate in '99 and I hope I'm grandfathered in. I don't mind taking a couple of more classes but 75 credits every 5 years is like taking 5 classes every year!
